Vinicius Junior to Stay at Real Madrid Amid Arsenal Interest

Real Madrid have no intention of selling winger Vinicius Junior to Arsenal this summer, with the club instead confident he will sign a new contract amid ongoing discussions. The Premier League champions are exploring a deal as the Brazil international enters the final year of his current contract at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Real Madrid are confident he will agree a new contract, rebuffing sustained interest from Arsenal as fresh talks continue this week. On Monday, Sky Sports News broke the news that further talks over his future between Real and his representatives will take place this week. That is with the intention of making progress on a new long-term contract at the Bernabeu. According to Sport, a Barcelona-leaning Catalan publication, Madrid plan to hold further talks with Vinicius Junior over a new deal. Spanish journalist Jorge C Picon, who has 25,000 followers on X, has reported that Vinicius Junior wants to stay at Madrid, despite interest from Arsenal. The journalist wrote on X at 9:38am on July 26: “Vinicius Junior wants to stay at Real Madrid. “This is what his entourage is conveying, assuring that his priority is to stay at Estadio Bernabeu, according to a journalist. On July 25, The Athletic broke the news that Arsenal are exploring a deal to sign Vinicius Junior in the summer transfer window.””

Contract Status and Valuation Strains at the Santiago Bernabéu

Vinicius has entered the final 12 months of his agreement in Madrid, creating a complex financial and sporting dynamic for the Spanish giants. Vinicius Junior will not return to Real Madrid training this week as uncertainty over his long-term future continues, with fresh contract talks scheduled in the coming days. The Daily Mail reports the Brazil international’s delayed return comes against the backdrop of ongoing negotiations over a new deal at the Santiago Bernabéu. Real Madrid are in a bit of a sticky situation because Vinicius Jr has only got one more year left on his contract. In six months from now, he could sign a pre-contract agreement with anyone outside of Spain. Then he could join any club for no money at all next summer. If you think about the valuation of the player, we think he is about £137m. That’s a large amount of money to forgo. However, they are confident he will sign that new deal.

Vinicius Junior to stay at Real Madrid & Yan Diomande Transfer Update

Under club president Florentino Perez, Madrid face a stark financial calculus: if an extension cannot be brokered, the club risks losing a marquee asset for nothing when his current terms expire in 2027. If Los Blancos are unable to reach an agreement with the 26-year-old, then Real Madrid president Florentino Perez plans to sell him this summer for €160million (£136.6m, $182m). Real have put a counter-offer to the Brazilian and his advisers. The aim is clear: Vinicius is to extend his contract, which expires in 2027. Real are said to know about Arsenal’s advances and now hope this latest offer will finally help them strike a deal with Vinicius. Talks have been dragging on for well over a year and have repeatedly stalled. Early on, Real’s hierarchy apparently felt Vinicius was asking for far too much in wages, with reports claiming he wanted to earn at least as much as team-mate Kylian Mbappe. Even though Vinicius had apparently softened his stance at one stage and moved away from his original wage demands, Sky reported in the spring that an agreement over a new deal was close. Several months on, it still has not happened.

Arsenal Pursuit and the Market Landscape for Left-Sided Attackers

Arsenal are monitoring the situation closely as they explore options to strengthen the left side of their attack. The Premier League champions admire Vinicius, but no club-to-club talks have taken place and there is no indication that a formal approach is imminent. Real Madrid’s priority remains securing a contract renewal rather than entertaining offers. However, with Vinicius now inside the final 12 months of his deal, the Spanish giants could face a difficult decision if negotiations fail to produce a breakthrough. Rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next summer, they may eventually have to consider offers.

The Diomande deal is unaffected. I don’t think this has anything to do with Vinicius Jr at all. I suppose they may have used it to put pressure on Vinicius. He plays on both sides. There’s a situation where Yan Diomande can play on the right, Vinicius Jr signs his new contract and plays in his preferred position on the left, and Kylian Mbappe through the centre.

Managerial Backing and Past Tensions Under José Mourinho

New manager Jose Mourinho is understood to value Vinicius highly and wants him to remain one of his top Galacticos. Mourinho is keen to keep the 26-year-old at the heart of his project.

In an interview with El Pais earlier this summer, Madrid president Florentino Perez insisted that he would not stand in Vinicius Jr’s way if he wants to leave but hoped that the winger would remain at the club.
