For months, industry watchers tracked Xiaomi’s upcoming book-style foldable under the expected Mix Fold 5 banner. That naming convention has been discarded. Xiaomi has officially positioned the device within its primary numbered flagship series, designating it as the Xiaomi 18 Fold.

The shift aligns the hardware directly with the company’s conventional flagship lineup. The 18 Fold will be the first Xiaomi book-style foldable since the Mix Fold 4 arrived in 2024. Unofficial hands-on videos and real-world images appearing on Weibo reveal a wider and flatter design that departs markedly from the taller, narrower profile of its predecessor.

Hardware Design and the Wider Form Factor Shift

The leaked imagery depicts a slim profile featuring a horizontal, pill-shaped rear camera island housing three lenses and an LED flash. Across the top of the rear panel sits a horizontal camera island with a triple-lens setup and an LED flash, and the images also give a sense of how thin the folded device is, which fits Xiaomi’s broader move toward a shorter, wider foldable rather than the tall, narrow book style that Samsung popularised. This horizontal layout replaces the large, rectangular Leica-branded camera module seen on earlier iterations. According to figures shared by the company and reported by GSMArena, the chip scored 5,228,014 points on AnTuTu V11, crossing the five-million threshold for mobile silicon. Geekbench multi-core results of over 15,000 reportedly slip past Apple’s A19 Pro, even though the A19 Pro still leads in single-core.

Additional platform capabilities include support for LPDDR6 memory, which is a step ahead of what most 2025 flagships shipped with, alongside an NPU tuned for Xiaomi’s on-device AI. Concurrently, sibling flagships such as the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, launching at the same September event, will run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 instead.

Market Availability and Regional Restrictions

Despite impressive specifications on paper, global availability remains constrained. Xiaomi has confirmed its 18 Fold foldable for a late-September 2026 debut, maintaining the home-market exclusivity that characterized its prior initiatives. European regulatory filings via EEC certifications—the paperwork required for European sales—have been filed for the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, but no corresponding paperwork or US filings have surfaced for the 18 Fold, as noted by Notebookcheck.

For consumers in North America and the UK, this leaves essentially the only wide-format foldable available in those regions as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. Comprehensive pricing, battery specs, or camera details for the Xiaomi 18 Fold remain undisclosed ahead of the formal September release, and the standard Xiaomi 18 (non-fold) has been pushed back to December 2026 or January 2027.
