Singapore Airlines has claimed the title of the world’s best airline for 2026 in the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards, securing the top spot for the sixth time in history during a ceremony held in London on September 18, 2026.
The aviation rating organization Skytrax announced the winners of its annual 2026 World Airline Awards at a gala ceremony hosted at the iconic Langham Hotel in London. Often described in the industry as the Oscars of the aviation industry, the independent and impartial awards program began in 1999, with all customer survey costs and the awards event hosted and paid for by the organizers, Skytrax. Airline chairmen, CEOs, and presidents traveled to London to receive the awards.
To establish the 2026 rankings, Skytrax carried out the world’s largest airline passenger satisfaction survey. Between September 2025 and August 2026, customers representing more than 100 nationalities completed questionnaires in eight languages, evaluating over 325 airlines on their cleanliness, onboard WiFi, airport services and lounges, and offerings in economy, business, and first class, among other factors.
Singapore Airlines Secures the Top Spot for a Sixth Time
Outperforming more than 300 carriers evaluated in the survey, Singapore Airlines took home the highest global accolade. Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted noted the achievement during the London ceremony.
“We congratulate Singapore Airlines on this major achievement of being named the World’s Best Airline 2026, which highlights the level of product and service excellence they are providing to customers.”

In addition to taking the overall crown, Singapore Airlines excelled in specific service categories. The carrier’s Economy Class was awarded the titles for World’s Best Economy Class and World’s Best Economy Class Onboard Catering, successes that Plaisted noted should be a source of great pride and motivation for the airline’s management and staff.
“We are grateful to our customers for their trust and support, and we are committed to delivering an exceptional, world-class travel experience every time they fly with us. This award is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of our people, who continually strive to uphold SIA’s renowned standards for service and operational excellence.”
Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Global Competitors Claim Major Categories
Last year’s winner and a nine-times winner of the title, Qatar Airways, finished in second place in 2026. Despite slipping to second overall, Qatar Airways collected four top awards, including the title of World’s Best Business Class Airline—the thirteenth time the airline has received this global accolade—and recognition for its Al Mourjan Business Lounge The Garden as the World’s Best Business Class Lounge. The carrier also collected the award as the Best Airline in the Middle East.
Qatar Airways also secured the inaugural award for the World’s Best Onboard Wi-Fi, introduced in 2026 to reflect the importance to today’s customer experience of fast and free onboard connectivity. Qatar Airways Group CEO Hamad Al Khater pointed to the carrier’s workforce of numerous colleagues who delivered the best experience in the world through a particularly challenging year as the airline prepares to mark its thirtieth anniversary next year.
Rounding out the top tier of the 2026 rankings, Cathay Pacific Airways placed third overall and captured top honors with the award for the World’s Best Cabin Crew, alongside receiving the award for the World’s Best First Class Airline Lounge for its recently transformed The Wing Lounge, which provides a luxurious, calm environment with discreet, high-quality service. ANA All Nippon Airways ranked fourth, and Turkish Airlines finished in fifth position.
Investment and Fleet Expansion Drive Competition Across International Hubs
Cathay Group Chief Executive Officer Ronald Lam emphasized that the carrier’s recent service accolades are part of a broader push to capture market share as global aviation competition intensifies.
