Adrian Martinez Arrested After Basement Standoff in Idaho Falls
An early morning call to an Idaho Falls home on Saturday led to the arrest of a 27-year-old man who allegedly fought with Bonneville County Sheriff’s deputies in a basement while three young children were present.
Deputies responded around 5 a.m. to a residence located in the 1700 block of Fife Street after receiving information that a wanted man was hiding inside. Residents of the home directed law enforcement to the basement level. According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, Adrian Martinez was found hiding under blankets near a bed in a room that contained three young children.
Threats, Resistance, and New Felony Charges
When approached by deputies, Martinez verbally threatened them using obscenities and stated he would kill all of them. Authorities managed to handcuff him following a brief struggle, though he continued his threats as he was placed into a patrol car.
The situation escalated further during transport to the jail. Martinez unbuckled his seat belt, caused interior damage to the patrol vehicle, and attempted to break a window while repeating his threats to escape.
Upon arrival at the detention facility, Martinez was booked on his active misdemeanor warrants for driving while suspended and possession of drug paraphernalia. He now faces additional charges, including new felony counts of assault on certain personnel and attempted escape, alongside misdemeanor counts of resisting and arrest and malicious injury to property. Court records contained no further information regarding the case on Saturday.
