Body Found in Bag on Brooklyn Street After Surveillance Captures Dump

A routine morning in the Canarsie neighborhood of Brooklyn transformed into a homicide investigation on Friday, October 30, 2026, when a local scrap metal collector pulled a duffel bag containing a dead man’s body along the sidewalk. The gruesome discovery has drawn a heavy police response to the corner of East 93rd Street and Avenue L, leaving local business owners and residents grappling with a brazen disposal captured partly on surveillance tape.

Surveillance Footage Captures Early Morning Dumping

Security camera footage reviewed by law enforcement outlines the movements that preceded the discovery. According to video obtained by the New York Daily News, a car pulled up near a church on Avenue L near East 94th Street at around 2 a.m. Friday. A man and a woman emerged from the vehicle, opened the trunk, and laid a dark-colored Gator Case along the curb before shifting it perpendicular to the street.

NBC New York reported that a second man, driving what may have been an unlicensed taxi, stood nearby after getting out of the car. Surveillance captured that second person apparently offering the first person something to smoke before the video clip cut off. Authorities have not yet determined whether the driver of that vehicle knew human remains were inside the bag.

Across the street at a late-night barbershop, 51-year-old warehouse worker Joseph Luckner watched the vehicle arrive. The car just pulled up, and a man and a woman got out, Luckner recalled to the New York Daily News. They dumped the body right there. We didn’t pay it any attention. Of course, we didn’t realize it was a body. I thought it was just trash night.

The Discovery by a Local Scavenger

Several hours after the vehicle departed, a community member known for collecting scrap metal passed the church. Surveillance video showed the man using a hand truck to pull the large bag down the street. It was only after loading the bag and wheeling it toward East 93rd Street that the scavenger realized the heavy duffel contained human remains next to a green garbage can.

By 9 a.m., Chopper 4 footage and local reporting showed the intersection swarmed with police personnel. Officials stated the victim is an adult male, believed to be between 50 and 60 years old. His identity has been withheld pending family notification.

It’s disgusting. Disgusting to see, said William Kennedy, owner of the Love Gifts Cape smoke shop located directly next to the church where the remains were left. I’m new to the neighborhood. I don’t like things like this being dropped off in front of my place.

Pending Autopsy and Unanswered Questions

Investigators suspect foul play, but definitive answers regarding how and when the man died rest with the city’s medical examiner’s office, which must schedule an official autopsy. As of Friday evening, no arrests had been announced, and the specific circumstances surrounding the homicide remain under active investigation by law enforcement sources.
