Cookie Plug Closes Its Virginia Beach Store

Dark Windows at Holland Plaza

The building’s exterior sign is gone, the lights are off, and a simple closed sign hangs on the front door in the Holland Plaza Shopping Center. Inside, trays, supplies, and canned beverages still occupy the space, while the brand’s food truck remains parked outside. Cookie Plug has officially closed its Virginia Beach location, ending a brief run as the fast-growing California-based bakery chain’s first brick-and-mortar storefront in Virginia, pilotonline.com reported.

From Food Truck to Phatties

Franchise owners Mike and Doreen Walters originally introduced the concept to the area by launching a food truck in 2024. They expanded into the physical storefront in the Holland Plaza Shopping Center last year, serving a distinct menu of 16 flavors of extra-thick cookies known as “phatties.” These items featured distinct names such as Pixie, a sugar cookie coated in sprinkles; Bam Bam, flavored with fruity cereal; and Purple Haze, a purple velvet variety.

Silent Socials and Scrubbed Sites

Cookie Plug was last active on its Facebook page on Sept. 18, offering no public indication that an exit was imminent. By Oct. 16, the Virginia Beach location had been quietly scrubbed from the brand’s official corporate website. When a reporter from pilotonline.com visited the physical store that same day, the storefront was dark and abandoned.

Owners and Franchise Ignore Requests for Comment

Mike Walters alluded to an upcoming business venture on his personal Facebook page, but he did not respond to an Oct. 19 private message sent by reporters. The corporate franchise also failed to respond to an inquiry sent by Oct. 21, and telephone numbers previously associated with the Virginia Beach storefront are now disconnected.
