Wyoming Area Dominates Tunkhannock in 7-0 District 2 Playoff Win
When you outshoot an opponent 12 to 2 on the penalty corner ledger, the math usually tells the whole story.
The dominant quarterfinal performance sets up a high-stakes semifinal clash. Wyoming Area will now host Lackawanna Trail on Thursday with a spot in the district title game on the line.
The Warriors wasted no time asserting control on their home turf. Claudia Rehill opened the scoring unassisted at 11:54, before setting up a flurry of offense that left Tunkhannock scrambling on defense. Rehill finished the afternoon with one goal and three assists, orchestrating a relentless offensive attack that kept Tunkhannock pinned in their own defensive end.
Inside the Quarterfinal Numbers
Wyoming Area’s depth was on full display as the goals piled up across the first three quarters. Pizano struck first off an assist from Ella Campenni, and Belza capitalized on a feed from Rehill to extend the lead. Belza struck again in the third quarter, while Madison Doblovasky and Campenni also found the back of the net. Campenni also added an assist.
Tunkhannock struggled to find any offensive rhythm against the suffocating Warriors defense, managing zero shots and just two penalty corners compared to Wyoming Area’s 17 shots and 12 corners.
Meanwhile, across the district bracket, the postseason picture crystallized with several other decisive quarterfinal shutouts:
- Wyoming Seminary 11, Hanover Area 0: Top-seeded Wyoming Seminary rolled past Hanover Area behind a hat trick and an assist from Apollonia Bruno, advancing to host Lake-Lehman later this week. Erin Cavanaugh and Ella Plummer each scored two goals and added an assist, Kenley Berryman scored one goal and assisted on another, and Faylinn Fernandes and Addison Anderson each scored once. Julia Williams and Ava Sanders each had two assists, while Charlotte Fissler and Chloe Fiske had an assist.
- Lake-Lehman 2, Nanticoke Area 0: Lucia DeCesaris and Sara Womach supplied the scoring to lift the No. 5 Black Knights past the No. 4 seed on the road.

Willow Ritter opened the scoring, Natalia Salansky scored off a penalty corner, and Emma Thomas, Alana Edwards and Brooklyn Staffaroni also scored. Kacie Higgins, London Lisk and Caroline Minick added two assists apiece, with Ryon scoring goals at 14:56 and Staffaroni scoring at 4:15. Holy Redeemer’s Miller made 21 saves, while Lackawanna Trail goalies Laytos and Borick recorded 2 and 0 saves respectively against 2 shots and 1 corner.
- Abington Heights 13, Berwick 0: In the Class 2A subregional round, Elena Mastroianni scored three goals to lead the No. 2 Lady Comets past winless Berwick.
The Road Ahead to Thursday’s Semifinals
With the quarterfinal dust settled, the district tournament narrows down to the ultimate test of survival. Lackawanna Trail rolls into Thursday’s semifinal matchup carrying a 14-5 record and riding the momentum of an 8-0 shutout where Lyla Ryon picked apart the Holy Redeemer defense.
For Wyoming Area, the objective remains straightforward. The Warriors must replicate Tuesday’s crisp passing combinations and suffocating defensive pressure if they want to punch their ticket to the district championship game.
