Georgia Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Meth Trafficking in SC

A routine traffic stop on Interstate 20 has resulted in a 25-year prison sentence for a Georgia man, marking a stark conclusion to a drug trafficking case that began over a year ago. Angelo Xzavier Allen, 41, of Augusta, was sentenced after a jury found him guilty of trafficking 400 grams or more of methamphetamine, according to reporting from WSB-TV.

The incident unfolded on March 12, 2025, when officers in Lexington County, South Carolina, pulled over the vehicle Allen was driving. During a search of the car—to which Allen consented—deputies discovered 491 grams of methamphetamine concealed beneath the front passenger seat. Prosecutors later argued that Allen was in the process of transporting the narcotics into Lexington County to complete a drug transaction.

The Legal Threshold for Trafficking

In South Carolina, the weight of the narcotics found in Allen’s vehicle triggered specific statutory mandates. State law classifies the trafficking of 400 grams or more of methamphetamine as a serious, violent offense. This classification carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison, with no possibility of parole. Because the jury convicted Allen of exceeding this weight threshold, the court was bound by these sentencing guidelines.

Assistant Solicitor Player Long addressed the case following the verdict, emphasizing the collaborative efforts between local law enforcement and the solicitor’s office. “This conviction underscores our office’s commitment to working alongside law enforcement in protecting our community from the serious harms associated with the distribution of dangerous controlled substances,” Long stated.

A History of Prior Offenses

The sentence handed down on October 8 reflects not only the severity of the trafficking charge but also Allen’s prior criminal history. Records indicate that Allen had previous convictions in Georgia involving drugs, weapons charges, and aggravated assault. At the time of the March 2025 traffic stop, he was serving probation for the aggravated assault conviction.

Allen has now been transferred to the custody of the South Carolina Department of Corrections to begin serving his sentence.
