Glasgow man dies in Boone County highway 40 crash involving a deer

Fatal Highway 40 Crash Claims Life in Boone County

A Thursday evening collision on Highway 40 in Boone County turned fatal when a secondary impact involving a deer claimed the life of a 40-year-old Glasgow man. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) crash report, the incident occurred at 5:47 p.m. as traffic moved along the highway east of Rocheport Gravel Road.

The sequence began when a Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 75-year-old male, struck a deer while traveling east. The force of the impact propelled the animal into the westbound lane, directly into the path of a Jeep Renegade. The deer struck the windshield and top of the Jeep, breaching the passenger compartment and striking the driver. Following the impact, the Jeep traveled off the left side of the roadway and collided with trees.

Emergency responders pronounced the 40-year-old driver dead at the scene at 6:12 p.m., KRCG reported. The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox brought his vehicle to a controlled stop on the right shoulder. MSHP records indicate that both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

Troop F Records 56th Fatality of 2026

This incident marks a grim milestone for regional safety, serving as Troop F’s 56th fatality of 2026 and the first recorded for the month of November. The investigation into the crash was assisted by Cpl. B. Harris.

While wildlife-vehicle collisions remain a persistent hazard on Missouri roadways, the physics of this particular crash highlight the unpredictable nature of road debris. When an animal is struck and projected into oncoming traffic, the window for evasive action by the second driver is often non-existent. For commuters traveling through rural or wooded stretches of Highway 40, these events underscore the precarious reality of high-speed transit in areas with high deer populations.

The MSHP crash report confirms that the next of kin for the deceased driver have been notified. No further details regarding the condition of the driver of the Chevrolet Equinox were released, and the investigation into the specific circumstances of the event remains documented in the official state file.
