An Academic Foundation in Competitive Advocacy
When J.T. Sherman earned his Juris Doctor from the Oklahoma City University School of Law, he stepped into a career defined by high-stakes litigation, medical malpractice, and complex personal injury disputes.
Sherman earned the Philip Jessup Moot Court Southwest Regional Outstanding Oralist Award in 2010 and secured membership in the Order of the Barristers for excellence in competitive advocacy upon graduating in the top of his law class. His academic path through OCU Law also featured the Kilpatrick Scholarship, the Petree Award in philosophy, and a place on the Dean’s Honor Roll.
Handling Both Sides of Healthcare Litigation
Before focusing on complex medical and personal injury claims, Sherman represented healthcare providers and institutions in medical malpractice defense. That early work provided him with a comprehensive, dual-sided view of healthcare litigation before he transitioned to representing plaintiffs in negligence and malpractice matters.
Leadership at Compton Law Firm
His background includes serving as Director of the Medical Malpractice Department at Compton Law Firm. In that role, he led complex cases involving healthcare negligence while guiding trial preparation and appellate matters.
In-House Counsel for SSM Health
Sherman also gained operational and regulatory insight working as in-house counsel for SSM Health / St. Anthony Hospital. During his tenure there, he advised hospital administration on regulatory compliance, operational procedures, and administrative proceedings.
Decades in Oklahoma’s Debate Communities
Outside of active courtrooms and corporate advisory roles, Sherman has maintained a long-standing presence in Oklahoma’s academic and debate communities, serving for decades as a debate judge for the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association.
