Jaguar Unveils All-Electric Type 01 Grand Tourer

Jaguar has unveiled its new all-electric Type 01 grand tourer in New York, setting a starting price of $130,500 and boasting a three-motor powertrain producing up to 1,015 horsepower. Managing Director Rawdon Glover reports that more than 50,000 prospective buyers have registered interest, with roughly 80 percent coming from outside the brand’s traditional customer base.

The British automaker’s electric reset has officially taken shape. It is trading high-volume production for ultra-luxury exclusivity. Built in the United Kingdom, the four-door grand tourer relies on a dedicated electric architecture. It pairs radical proportions with performance figures designed to command attention from the moment orders open in early 2027.

Jaguar Details Power and Range for the Type 01

Underneath its low roofline and elongated hood lies a three-motor electric setup generating up to 1,015 horsepower. The system also produces 1,007 pound-feet of torque. Jaguar estimates a zero-to-60-mph time of 3.1 seconds. Alternative reporting places the sprint to 62 mph at 3.2 seconds using the brand’s fresh 850-volt architecture.

Energy storage comes from an 118-kilowatt-hour usable battery pack. The vehicle supports up to an estimated 400 miles of range when equipped with 21-inch wheels, though these figures remain manufacturer estimates rather than final EPA ratings. Compatible 350-kilowatt DC charging can restore up to 200 miles of range in roughly 13 minutes.

The model features a glassless tailgate giving the rear an unusually solid appearance. It is accompanied by aerodynamic features such as active front vanes and a deployable rear spoiler. Jaguar reports a drag coefficient of 0.23, calling this its most aerodynamic car.

Jaguar Targets New Buyers at Higher Price Points

The decision to pivot away from mainstream volume marks a fundamental change in corporate strategy. Jaguar previously struggled to keep pace with BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi. This led managing director Rawdon Glover to state that making small changes to the existing lineup was no longer sustainable. The brand is deliberately moving upmarket with an all-electric lineup aimed at wealthier buyers. This plan effectively wipes out its previous range and commands starting prices about double the old XJ sedan.

I’ve seen our brand awareness decline in the last 12 months.

While overall awareness has dipped, interest among prospective buyers has surged past 50,000 registrations. Approximately 80 percent of those individuals have never previously owned a Jaguar.

Glover noted that the decision to start again was pretty unanimously agreed on at a board level with their shareholders. Glover remarked that universal household recognition is likely unnecessary. He noted that the firm only needs to reach a tiny fraction of that pool for the vehicle to achieve viability.

Jaguar Faces Mixed Public Reception After Unveiling

The vehicle’s aggressive exterior and comprehensive brand overhaul have generated intense debate across automotive circles. BBC News noted that the unveiling faced mixed reactions concerning both the styling choices and the complete turn toward an all-electric lineup.

The Type 01 sits firmly in the ultra-premium tier of private automobiles. It carries a starting price of £130,000 in the UK and $130,500 in the U.S. Proportions on the vehicle draw inspiration from classic models such as the E-Type and XJS. Standard wheels measure 23 inches, while 21-inch wheels are available as an option.

Inside the cabin, the low driving position is intended to surround the driver. Concealed compartments help preserve a clean appearance. A digital ClearSight rear-view display is mounted centrally at the bottom of the front glass, set at roughly the same elevation as the outside mirrors.

Deliveries for the Type 01 are anticipated to begin in the second half of 2027 following the opening of order banks early that year.
