Meishka L. Mitchell Named Executive Director of New Jersey LCV

The New Jersey League of Conservation Voters (New Jersey LCV) and the New Jersey LCV Education Fund announced today that Meishka L. Mitchell, AICP, PP, will serve as their new Executive Director and CEO. Following a comprehensive national search, the boards confirmed that Mitchell will step into the leadership role on December 1.

Mitchell arrives at a critical turning point for the organization, bringing over two decades of experience in environmental advocacy, climate action, and community equity. Her most recent position was leading the Emerald Cities Collaborative, a national organization focused on the intersection of clean energy, climate resilience, and economic opportunity. During her tenure there, she was responsible for scaling the organization’s national footprint and securing significant investments from philanthropic partners to fuel green workforce development.

A Background in Urban Planning and Environmental Justice

A native of Camden, Mitchell’s approach to environmental policy is rooted in her professional training as a licensed city planner. Her resume includes a significant stint as Vice President of the Camden Community Partnership, where she managed initiatives that directed more than $50 million in public, private, and philanthropic capital toward climate resilience and environmental health projects. These efforts were often tangible, visible transformations of local landscapes.

One of her most notable achievements involved the reclamation of a former landfill site, which was transformed into the 62-acre Cramer Hill Waterfront Park. The project did more than create open space; it restored seven acres of tidal freshwater wetlands and re-established wildlife habitats along the Delaware River shoreline. This work reflects a career-long focus on using land use and infrastructure as tools to mitigate flood risks and improve neighborhood resilience.

Mitchell Teaches at Rutgers University and Runs Advocacy Platform

Beyond her executive work, Mitchell maintains a presence in the academic and public education sectors. She currently serves as a lecturer at Rutgers University, where her curriculum focuses on Environmental Justice and U.S. Environmental Policy. She is also the creator of Black Girl Kinda Green, an advocacy platform designed to make environmental justice concepts more accessible to the broader public through storytelling.
