Norwood police are actively searching for 65-year-old Maciel DeOliveira in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left two pedestrians injured last month. Authorities attempted to take DeOliveira into custody on Saturday, but they were unable to locate him, leading investigators to believe he may have fled the area to avoid facing charges.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Washington and Day streets shortly after 6:30 p.m. According to police reports, the sequence of events turned dire when one victim attempted to push the other out of the path of an oncoming SUV. This split-second act of intervention resulted in the first victim bearing the brunt of the impact. The injuries sustained were significant, including a concussion and damage to his shoulder and knees, while the second victim suffered wrist injuries.
Surveillance Footage and License Plate Readers Reveal Suspect Vehicle
Investigators utilized a combination of traditional and modern police work to identify the suspect. The breakthrough came after a thorough review of surveillance footage, witness interviews, and the use of license plate reader technology. Police have described the suspect’s vehicle as a gray or black SUV, potentially an older model Honda Pilot. The vehicle is expected to show visible damage to one or both of its headlights, a detail that could prove critical for members of the public who may have seen it in the days following the crash.
The driver reportedly did not stop after the collision, continuing south on Washington Street.

The Norwood Police Department is urging the public to exercise caution and avoid attempting to approach or apprehend the suspect themselves. Instead, anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Maciel DeOliveira is asked to contact the department directly at 781-440-5181.
