Sombr Brings Lower Manhattan to Minneapolis in Vulnerable, High-Energy Tour Stop
Shane Michael Boose emerged from a smoke-filled room at Minneapolis’ Target Center on Sunday night, sunglasses hiding tired, smoky eyes as he started the night with a bang, launching into “we never dated.” The Minnesota Daily reported that the 21-year-old singer-songwriter, performing under the stage name Sombr, began his concert in a deliberately vulnerable state, revealing an insecurity about living within his own thoughts.
That raw opening framed the 21st of 37 stops on his “You Are the Reason” tour, a milestone that BroadwayWorld described as a night of music, visuals, and singalong moments that showcased how far his career has grown since his songs about relationships and heartbreak first found their audience.
Sombr told the crowd that his motivation for still doing music comes from the immense support of his fans throughout his journey, and that this entire tour exists as a thank-you to them—letting them know that if it were not for them, he would not be where he is today.

A Canal Street Backdrop and a Fire Escape in the Round
The stage design pulled directly from Sombr’s childhood in New York, featuring a Lower Manhattan streetscape complete with Canal Street, apartment buildings, fire escapes, and windows. The Minnesota Daily noted that he stood on a fire escape with his guitarist during the show, while BroadwayWorld highlighted how the lighting shifted through different colors and effects to match each performance, adding to the visual look of every song.
Opening acts Hannah Jadagu and The Last Dinner Party warmed up the crowd ahead of Sombr, with the latter bringing a theatrical approach, distinct musical style, and memorable outfits that set a high bar before the headliner took the stage. Sombr himself kept the audience engaged through dancing, jumping, and constant movement, with BroadwayWorld noting that his wardrobe choices fit the overall style of the production.
Living Inside the Song
Over ten minutes of loud, energetic music punctuated by continuous strobe lights, Sombr appeared worn down from the energy he had displayed when the show began. At one point, he held both hands in the air with his head low, staring at the ground, embodying the message displayed during the performance: “sometimes it’s easier to live inside of a song than it is to live inside of yourself.”
He basked in the song’s glory without having to dwell on the crowd’s burst of applause, a contrast that lent the performance its emotional depth. The setlist leaned heavily into his 2025 album I Barely Know Her, closing that portion with “under the mat,” the album’s final track, after which he raised his hands to the crowd.

The two accounts of the night capture different sides of the same performance: where The Minnesota Daily focused on the vulnerability and emotional toll of the spotlight, BroadwayWorld emphasized the fun and the visible growth of a young artist who has quickly gained popularity with catchy songs about young love.
Singing Along in the Dark
BroadwayWorld reported that the crowd sang along throughout the evening, with especially enthusiastic reactions during “back to friends,” which brought one of the biggest audience reactions of the night, and “12 to 12.” Sombr performed “12 to 12” twice—the second time encouraging everyone to put their phones away and simply enjoy the moment, a request that turned the arena into a sea of raised hands rather than glowing screens.
Other fan favorites filled the set, including “perfume,” “Homewrecker,” “undressed,” and “do i ever cross your mind,” alongside “i wish i knew how to quit you,” during which he held his mic stand over his head with a mural of attendees behind him. A clip of fans explaining what Sombr’s music means to them brought a personal touch to the evening, underscoring the bond he has formed with his audience.
The Road Continues Through November and Into January
The Minneapolis show on Nov. 1, 2026 was just one stop in a busy stretch. Sombr will continue the “You Are the Reason” tour throughout the Midwest and the East Coast for the rest of November, then head to Mexico City for two shows in the beginning of January.
As the night ended at the Target Center—the 21st of 37—the message was clear: this tour is built on gratitude, and the Minneapolis crowd sang every word back to him.
