Utah Nurses Association Offers $1,000 Scholarships for Local Students
The Utah Nurses Association has opened its latest round of funding for the Grant-In-Aid scholarship, offering $1,000 to nursing students who demonstrate both academic merit and a clear commitment to the state’s healthcare workforce.
To be eligible, applicants must be residents of Utah, enrolled at least part-time with a minimum of 6 credit hours, and have completed at least one semester of core nursing coursework.
Prospective recipients must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The program is designed to cover tuition and books, and students may receive the award a maximum of two times during their educational career.
Students Must Meet Deadlines and Membership Requirements
The association reviews applications twice annually. To be considered for the current cycle, students must submit their materials by either June 1st or October 1st.
Membership status is a prerequisite for the funding.
Undergraduate students must belong to their school’s chapter of the National Student Nurses Association. Meanwhile, registered nurses pursuing a Baccalaureate or Advanced Nursing Degree must hold membership in the Utah Nurses Association or the American Nurses Association.

Committee Evaluates Candidates Through Various Criteria
The Scholarship Committee evaluates candidates based on a variety of factors, including the specific degree program—such as ADN, BSN, or DNP—and the quality of the applicant’s personal narrative. The committee also reviews volunteer experience, community leadership, and financial need.
Applicants are required to submit a comprehensive financial section detailing all current resources, including existing scholarships, loans, wages, and gifts.
Along with an unofficial or official transcript and proof of membership, candidates must provide one professional recommendation. This recommendation must come from a faculty advisor, employer, or another individual who can verify the applicant’s work ethic and commitment to the profession.
Commitment to Utah Healthcare
Recipients of the scholarship must agree to specific terms regarding their future employment. Awardees are expected to work for a Utah healthcare facility or educational institution as a full-time employee for one year, or as a part-time employee for two years.
Furthermore, recipients must join the Utah Nurses Association within six months of graduation if they are not already members. The program also requires winners to provide a photo and narrative for publication in The Utah Nurse.
If a student fails to complete their educational program or the required work commitment within the state, the scholarship funds must be reimbursed to the Utah Nurses Foundation.
The association plans to notify applicants of the Board’s recommendations by July 15th and November 15th of each calendar year. Questions regarding the application process can be directed to the foundation via email at [email protected] with the subject line “UNF.”
