Richmond Flying Squirrels Search for Marketing Executive to Lead CarMax Park Expansion
The Richmond Flying Squirrels are seeking a Vice President of Marketing & Communications to lead the creative and strategic vision that increases brand awareness, engages fans, strengthens community connections, and elevates CarMax Park’s profile as a premier events and entertainment destination. This leadership role arrives as the Double-A Eastern League affiliate of the San Francisco Giants works to expand its footprint well beyond traditional baseball operations into large-scale entertainment.
Since their inaugural season in 2010, the Flying Squirrels have cemented themselves as a dominant force in Minor League Baseball. The organization routinely leads all 30 Double-A teams in both total and average attendance, anchoring its community presence in Central Virginia on three distinct pillars: be different, be impactful, and have FUNN. Now, the franchise wants a top-tier executive to translate those ballpark numbers into sustained year-round ticket sales for concerts, festivals, and private gatherings hosted at their newly opened venue.
Inside the Expanding Scope of CarMax Park
Through their 804Live initiative, the organization produces a diverse public and private events calendar at CarMax Park, transforming the facility into a multi-use entertainment destination. The chosen candidate will be tasked with building and managing a comprehensive marketing funnel that guides customers from initial awareness all the way to retention and advocacy for both baseball games and non-baseball entertainment.
Day-to-day duties for the role cover an extensive spectrum of commercial responsibilities:
- Leading the annual marketing strategy across all company-wide platforms.
- Developing integrated campaigns for season, group, and individual ticket sales, plus merchandise and community programs.
- Overseeing public relations, media strategy, and multi-platform media buys across TV, radio, outdoor, print, and digital channels.
- Managing content strategy, video production, design assets, and digital growth across the official website, email, and major social media outlets.
- Collaborating with the Corporate Partnerships team to deliver branded content and sponsor integration.
- Directly supervising and mentoring the marketing, digital media, and communications staffs, along with interns and contractors.
Candidates applying for the position are required to hold a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Sports Management, or a related field, alongside seven to ten years of relevant experience in sports, entertainment, or live events. The role demands proficiency in marketing analytics, CRM systems, and creative design software, plus a willingness to work demanding schedules that frequently include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
