3 Shot in Wilmington Triple Shooting, One Man Dead

Three people were shot Tuesday night on the 2300 block of Jessup Street in Wilmington, leaving a 27-year-old man dead and two women hospitalized in stable condition. Officers from the Wilmington Police Department responded around 9 p.m. to reports of gunfire and found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds; the man died after arriving at a local hospital, while the women, ages 31 and 21, received treatment and were placed in stable condition.

The shooting unfolded in the same neighborhood where, just over four months earlier, a confrontation between police and a 19-year-old man ended in a fatal shooting. That proximity places Tuesday’s violence near the intersection of 24th and Jessup streets, where Kadir Skinner was killed by police on June 24—a location that has now seen two separate deadly incidents in less than five months.

The June Shooting That Still Echoes on Jessup Street

Investigators say officers were patrolling near 24th and Jessup just after 11 p.m. on June 24 when they observed a large gathering. While monitoring the crowd, investigators say they saw a man armed with a handgun exit a residence and point the firearm toward the group. When officers approached the 19-year-old, later identified as Kadir Skinner, police say he fled on foot. During the chase, an officer engaged the suspect and discharged a department-issued firearm, striking him. Skinner was taken to a local hospital where he died, and police recovered a loaded firearm from the suspect. No officers were injured in that encounter.

Now the 2300 block of Jessup Street has become the scene of another fatal shooting. SkyForce10 was overhead at around 10 p.m. Tuesday, spotting evidence markers in the middle of the roadway and an active police investigation at the scene. The network confirmed that the 27-year-old victim’s name has not yet been released and that both female victims—ages 31 and 21—showed up at the hospital with gunshot wounds and were listed in stable condition.

What Investigators Know—and What Remains Unknown

Wilmington Police have not reported any arrests in Tuesday’s triple shooting, nor have they shared a description of a suspect. Investigators are working to determine what sparked the deadly incident, but no motive has been announced. Anyone with tips can contact Detective Brendan Shea at 302-576-3649, Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Tip-3333, or Delawarecrimestoppers.com.

The contrast between the two investigations is notable. In Tuesday’s case, authorities have offered no suspect description and no arrests, leaving the community without answers about who opened fire on three people near a location already marked by tragedy.

Two Tragedies in the Same Small Radius

Both fatal incidents occurred on or near Jessup Street during evening hours, though the circumstances diverged sharply. The June shooting involved a police officer engaging an armed suspect during a patrol of a large gathering, resulting in one death and no officer injuries. Tuesday’s shooting involved three civilian victims—one man dead, two women wounded—with no reported police involvement in the gunfire itself, though officers were the first to respond around 9 p.m.

Wilmington Police continue to investigate what led to Tuesday’s gunfire, and the investigation remains active.
