North Dakota Environmental Regulators Propose Air Permit for Lignite Compressor Station Conversion

The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality has proposed issuing an air pollution control construction permit that will transform the Steel Reef Burke LLC – Lignite Gas Plant into the Lignite Compressor Station. Located in Burke County, the facility is undergoing a change in name with this permit action.

Preliminary evaluations conducted by the department indicate that the facility will comply with all applicable air pollution control rules. State regulators project that there will be no detrimental or significant effects on air quality. Predicted pollutant concentrations surrounding the facility are expected to remain below both state and federal ambient air quality standards.

A 30-day public comment period concerning the draft permit opens on Nov. 9 and closes on Dec. 9. For submissions to receive official consideration, all feedback must explicitly include the subject line “Re: Public Comment for Permit Number ACP-18362 v1.0”. Interested parties can direct written remarks via email to [email protected] or send physical letters to the NDDEQ, Division of Air Quality, 4201 Normandy Street, 2nd Floor, Bismarck, ND 58503-1324.
