Reece Walsh Faces Long-Term Stint on Sidelines

The lopsided scoreline took a backseat to a major injury toll, headlined by a devastating blow to Brisbane fullback Reece Walsh. In the 17th minute, Walsh fell victim to a Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad hip-drop tackle as he attempted an offload. The challenge sent Nicoll-Klokstad to the sin bin and left Walsh in immediate distress.

Although Walsh initially attempted to play on for another set, he was forced from the field two minutes later, unable to put weight on his leg. Fox League analyst Cooper Cronk observed the player’s competitive nature during the brief return.

Commentator Dan Ginnane noted from the sideline that Walsh getting that leg worked on here before adding that that might be it for Reece Walsh this year. Fox League’s Kevin Walters revealed that Walsh suffered a high ankle sprain requiring immediate scans. The player was later spotted leaving the venue in a moon boot and on crutches, placing both the remainder of his club season and potential October World Cup ambitions in serious jeopardy.

Luke Metcalf Injury Leaves Warriors Halves Scrambling

The Warriors absorbed a major personnel loss of their own when star halfback Luke Metcalf pulled up lame after converting an intercept try. Having suffered a season-ending ACL injury at the same Brisbane venue in 2025, Metcalf grabbed his right hamstring immediately following the kick and departed the field.

The setback leaves the Warriors facing a severe playmaking shortage. Te Maire Martin remains sidelined for at least two weeks due to a hamstring injury, while Jett Cleary has requested a release from the club effective at the end of the season. In Metcalf’s absence, Chanel Harris-Tavita shifted successfully from five-eighth into halfback—contributing a try, a try assist, and more than 500 kicking meters—while Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad moved from fullback into the five-eighth role.

Ladder Implications and Upcoming Fixtures

Despite missing their primary playmaker for the second half, the Warriors maintained third place on the NRL ladder. They sit level with the Penrith Panthers on competition points while trailing by ten points on differential, and stand just two points behind the league-leading Sydney Roosters.

The Warriors return to Sydney to face the South Sydney Rabbitohs on Saturday night. They will then close out their regular-season campaign with consecutive home fixtures against the Newcastle Knights and the Manly Sea Eagles.
