Ferrari Reveals 720-HP 296 GT Modificata Track Car

Ferrari has pulled the wraps off the 296 GT Modificata, an extreme, track-only machine derived from the 296 GT3 Evo but stripped of racing regulations. Producing 720 horsepower from an upgraded twin-turbo V6 engine, the exclusive two-seater is tailored specifically for members of Ferrari’s Club Competizioni GT program.

Upgraded V6 Power and Aerodynamic Overhaul

At the heart of Maranello’s most radical 296 variant sits an upgraded twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 engine. To feed the engine’s higher thirst for gasoline, the car features a new low-pressure pump and a beefier fuel system.

Freed from the regulatory shackles of FIA- or IMSA-sanctioned series, the car also features a heavily modified body designed to generate maximum downforce and high-speed stability.

The front end incorporates a meaner slotted splitter alongside additional aerodynamic elements, while a massive fixed rear wing features endplates inspired by the Ferrari 499P Hypercar, which also has a Modificata version. Because the machine is built exclusively for private track use, engineers ignored compromises for ground clearance, pedestrian protection, emissions, and everyday usability. The body also incorporates chunkier air intakes and heavily sculpted surfaces designed to manage airflow at high speeds.

Pacing Fiorano and the Club Competizioni GT Calendar

Without a rulebook dictating its limits, the track toy is estimated to lap Ferrari’s Fiorano test track about three seconds faster than the GT3 Evo race car on which it is based. Other mechanical changes include new front brake discs and a shift to a two-seat configuration.

The car will be built in extremely limited numbers, targeting affluent buyers belonging to Ferrari’s exclusive Club Competizioni GT program. Ferrari’s statement about the new car added: “The 296 GT Modificata is intended solely for track day use and participation in the events of the Ferrari Club Competizioni GT, the program created to offer Ferrari customers an exclusive member-only experience on some of the world’s most prestigious circuits.” Purchasing the vehicle includes two years or 12 rounds of participation in the members-only series, allowing owners to drive on famous circuits around the globe with European venues such as Jerez, Misano, Paul Ricard and Spa as well as other tracks located much further afield like Fuji and Indianapolis.

Where Owners Will Drive the New Track Toy

The 296 GT Modificata was digitally launched during this weekend’s Ferrari Racing Days event at the Hungaroring, where its Ferrari Challenge Europe series was in action, and is scheduled to make its physical public appearance at the Finali Mondiali at Barcelona next month. The calendar for 2027 features stops across Europe, Asia, and North America, offering owners varied track layouts to test the car’s enhanced capabilities.

For 2027, the calendar features seven events at Jerez de la Frontera in Spain, Misano Adriatico in Italy, Fuji in Japan, Indianapolis in the United States, Paul Ricard in France, and Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.

The 2027 season will conclude at the Ferrari Finali Mondiali, with the exact venue and dates to be announced at a later time.
