More than 1,250 Leaders Converge on Newark for Economic Summit on Dec. 8
A large assembly of executives, governmental representatives, and a diverse array of other professionals will gather in downtown Newark slightly more than four weeks hence as a prominent conference returns. Slated for Dec. 8, the Newark Summit for Economic Development, Placemaking & Innovation will again be hosted at 550 Broad St., the prominent office tower that is owned by The Fidelco Group.
Coordinators from roundtable&advisory anticipate attendance from over 1,250 regional principals, with the Newark Alliance and Prudential Financial acting as co-chairs, Invest Newark as presenting partner and Fidelco as venue partner. The assembly will feature prominent investors, anchor institutions, developers, occupiers, owners, nonprofits and advisers from throughout the city, county, state and region who will examine expansion, innovation and placemaking within Newark.
The all-day event commences with a breakfast reception at 7:30 a.m., succeeded by welcome remarks at 8:15 a.m. and the initial panel discussion not long after.
Assessing Newark's Economic Progress
The discussions will spotlight the projects, initiatives and partnerships shaping Newark’s next chapter and strengthening its position as a growth market. Chief among them will be Mayor Ras Baraka, who returns for a keynote fireside chat. The summit’s focus is deliberate, aiming to assess Newark’s economic progress, identify emerging investment opportunities, and help shape the city’s development trajectory.
“Newark Alliance is proud to once again support the Newark Summit,” said Solomon Steplight, the organization’s CEO. “It’s an opportunity to assess Newark’s economic progress, identify emerging investment opportunities and help shape the next chapter of our city’s development.”
This year’s assembly will be held on the 16th and 17th floors of 550 Broad, providing expansive vistas of the New York City skyline and downtown Newark. The location itself embodies the summit’s central theme. “The building speaks to one of the Newark Summit’s central ideas: that Newark’s continued progress is driven by the intersection of the private, public and philanthropic sectors,” said Kerri B. Levine, principal of The Fidelco Group.
A Who’s Who of Newark’s Power Players
A confirmed and extensive list of speakers shows the summit's significance. The roster includes a cross-section of Newark’s most influential figures, from Mayor Ras J. Baraka to the CEOs of major corporations, leaders of anchor institutions, and principals of top development firms.
The participation of individuals like Adenah Bayoh, founder and principal of Adenah Bayoh & Cos., and Ron Beit, CEO of RBH Group, shows that the summit will focus on the city’s real estate and development. Their presence alongside leaders from the arts, culture, and philanthropic sectors—like Jose Cruz, senior managing director at JLL, and Fayemi Shakur, arts and cultural affairs director for the City of Newark—creates a comprehensive forum for discussing Newark’s holistic growth.
“The Newark Summit brings together the people committed to Newark’s continued economic growth,” said Marcus Randolph, CEO and president of Invest Newark. “Newark is experiencing significant momentum, and our responsibility is to ensure that we are deliberate about how we build upon it. This Summit creates an important forum for substantive dialogue, new partnerships and investment opportunities that can strengthen Newark’s economy and expand opportunity for the people and businesses that call this city home.”
The economic stakes are high. Newark’s comeback story is compelling, but sustaining it requires more than just development projects. It demands a strategy for job creation, workforce development, and affordable housing that keeps pace with the city’s transformation. The summit’s agenda appears designed to address these interconnected challenges, fostering the kind of public-private partnerships that can drive investment while also ensuring that growth benefits the entire community.
