Alaska Airlines Announces First-Ever Nonstop Service Between Austin and Anchorage

Austin Gets Its First Nonstop Flight to Alaska
Beginning June 12, 2027, Alaska Airlines will launch the first-ever nonstop domestic service between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Anchorage, Alaska (ANC). Operating once weekly on Saturdays through August 7, 2027, the seasonal route will be flown with a Boeing 737, establishing a direct connection between Central Texas and the state of Alaska.

Connecting Central Texas to the Last Frontier

Travelers in Central Texas will soon have a direct path to the mountains and glaciers of Alaska. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport announced the new route, creating the only nonstop connection between Central Texas and the state of Alaska. The milestone marks the latest domestic expansion for the airport, opening up direct access to Anchorage’s urban amenities and surrounding wilderness.

The seasonal service is scheduled to run weekly on Saturdays through August 7, 2027. Flights from Austin will depart at 5:40 p.m. and land in Anchorage at 10:00 p.m. On the return leg, flights will leave Anchorage at 8:00 p.m. and touch down in Austin at 6:00 a.m. the following morning, according to airport officials.

“We are proud to welcome Alaska Airlines’ new service to Anchorage, marking the first-ever nonstop connection between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and Anchorage, Alaska,” said Ghizlane Badawi, Chief Executive Officer of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. “This route gives Central Texas travelers a direct connection to Anchorage and the incredible experiences that await in Alaska, while creating new opportunities for tourism, business and stronger connections between our communities.”

Part of a Broader Northern Expansion

The Austin route is just one piece of a much larger network update unveiled for Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. Alongside the Central Texas addition, the carrier announced new domestic hops to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Nashville International Airport, alongside an international connection.

As reported by The Points Guy, Alaska Airlines will launch nonstop flights from Anchorage (ANC) to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport (NRT) starting in May 2027. That strategy leans heavily on the airline’s Boeing 737 fleet. While the Tokyo route will utilize a Boeing 737 MAX 8 equipped with 16 domestic first-class seats, 36 extra-legroom seats, and 115 standard economy seats, the domestic runs to Austin, Dallas, and Nashville will connect passengers into Anchorage’s growing hub network.

Marilyn Romano, Regional Vice President of Alaska Airlines, emphasized the carrier’s expanding footprint during the announcement. “From Anchorage to destinations around the globe, we’re building on that legacy and giving our guests more ways to explore with Alaska Airlines,” Romano noted.

Whether heading north for world-class fishing on the Kenai Peninsula, hiking near Denali, or catching connecting options onward, Central Texas flyers will no longer need a multi-stop itinerary to reach Alaska’s largest city when the inaugural flight departs next June.
