At least one person was injured in a traffic collision Wednesday morning in Albuquerque’s Glendale neighborhood, sparking a multi-hour closure of a major eastbound artery. The crash occurred before 7 a.m. at the intersection of Edith Boulevard Northeast and Montaño Road Northeast, according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.
This incident was part of a chaotic Wednesday morning for New Mexico commuters, as the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) responded to multiple injury-related crashes across the region. While the Glendale collision paralyzed eastbound traffic for over two hours, other simultaneous accidents on Coors Boulevard and Interstate 25 created a ripple effect of delays across the city’s transit grid.
Update: All lanes are back open.
Eastbound Edith Boulevard shuts down
The collision at Edith and Montaño forced deputies to close all eastbound lanes starting shortly before 7 a.m. The closure remained in effect until approximately 9:30 a.m., leaving morning commuters to scramble for alternative routes during the peak rush hour. Westbound lanes remained open and did not appear to be impacted by the wreckage.
Despite the duration of the closure, official details regarding the wreckage remain sparse. The BCSO has not yet confirmed the total number of vehicles involved or the specific number of people injured. Police have not disclosed the severity of the victims' injuries.

Parallel crashes on Coors Boulevard and I-25
The Glendale crash wasn’t an isolated event. Almost simultaneously, the BCSO dealt with another injury crash on southbound Coors Boulevard. That incident, reported at 7:22 a.m., shut down southbound lanes along Rio Boulevard Southwest. Those lanes were reopened just before 8:30 a.m., though northbound traffic continued to flow without interruption.
Further north, the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office spent Wednesday investigating two separate collisions on southbound Interstate 25. These crashes occurred near mileposts 247 and 248, situated between Algodones and Bernalillo. In the second of these two I-25 crashes, deputies confirmed that four vehicles were involved. The New Mexico State Police assisted in the effort, redirecting traffic off the interstate toward exit 252 to clear the scene.
The investigation continues
As of Wednesday afternoon, the cause of the Glendale collision remains under investigation. Authorities have not released any information regarding whether speed, impairment, or mechanical failure played a role in the crash at Edith and Montaño.
The lack of immediate data on the number of injuries across these three separate locations—Glendale, Coors Boulevard, and I-25—leaves a significant gap in the morning’s narrative.
