Front Office Clears the Ledger
Right on the heels of the 2026 World Series conclusion, the Atlanta Braves wasted no time reshaping their organizational outlook. Heavy Sports reported that the franchise announced a flurry of roster transactions covering notable free agents alongside a wave of pitcher reinstatements from the injured list.
The headline-grabbing departures involve key players hitting the open market. Raisel Iglesias, Ha-Seong Kim, Mauricio Dubon, and Tyler Mahle all officially became free agents, clearing immediate room on the ledger as front-office decision-makers look toward 2027. Yet the club’s administrative housekeeping extended far beyond departing veterans.
Securing the Core and Restoring Arms
According to social media updates published by the @Braves on October 29, the organization officially exercised club options for outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. and infielder Ozzie Albies to secure their services for the 2027 season. At the same time, Atlanta reinstated right-handers Spencer Schwellenbach, Spencer Strider, and Hurston Waldrep, alongside left-hander Joey Wentz, from the 60-day injured list.
The #Braves today exercised options for OF Ronald Acuña Jr. and INF Ozzie Albies for the 2027 season. Atlanta also reinstated RHPs Spencer Schwellenbach, Spencer Strider and Hurston Waldrep, as well as LHP Joey Wentz, from the 60-day injured list.
While standard procedural reinstatements from the 60-day IL happen routinely across Major League Baseball at season’s end, the transactions do not guarantee full health or immediate readiness as winter workouts approach. The physical status of these four arms dictates a substantial portion of the club’s pitching depth.
Elbow Trouble Sidelines Pitching Depth
Spencer Schwellenbach enters the offseason looking to turn the page after missing all of 2026 due to elbow trouble. Joey Wentz likewise sat out the entire 2026 campaign after logging a 4.92 ERA over 13 starts and 64 innings for Atlanta back in 2025.

Strider Faces Critical Trajectory
Spencer Strider faces an even more critical trajectory. Inked to a lucrative contract, Strider labored through roughly 40 innings in 2026 before an arm injury in June shut him down for good. Once considered one of the most dominant starters in the majors, persistent arm injuries have disrupted his career path and left lingering questions regarding his long-term future in an Atlanta uniform.
Looking Ahead to the 2027 Ceiling
Hurston Waldrep rounds out the group. Following a promising breakout campaign in 2025, the young arm struggled to find consistent productivity on the big-league mound in 2026, ultimately spending August and September recovering on the shelf.

Securing Acuña Jr. and Albies guarantees core offensive stability, but the ultimate ceiling for the 2027 Braves depends entirely on whether these returning arms can successfully transition from the injured list back to the mound.
