Sam’s true intentions emerge in Black Doves Season 2
Sam may have helped Helen rescue Reed from captivity, but his ultimate goal was to complete a hit on her, Film Fugitives reported.
The penultimate episode of Black Doves season two, titled “The Opportunity to Become Savage,” shifts from the emotional weight of Helen’s past to a high-stakes rescue mission. After Laila survived attempts on her life by Williams and Eleanor, she provided Helen with the location of Reed’s confinement.
The rescue mission turned into a violent confrontation at a mansion where dozens of mercenaries were waiting. While Williams and Eleanor took a direct, loud approach to the building, Helen and Sam attempted a more discreet entry, though the chaos quickly escalated.
Reed reveals a web of manipulation
During the firefight, Helen confronted Sam about his decision to poison Chernov to death, a move she argued could spiral out of control for Wallace. Sam responded by accusing Helen of acting selfishly, noting his own deteriorating psychological state and his struggle with a guilt-ridden existence.
Once Helen reached Reed, the captive revealed she was being framed for the crisis involving the killing of Black Doves agents. Reed explained that Ida had been manipulated by a shadow entity and eliminated once she was no longer useful.

Reed also shared her history as agent Wildflower and her connection to her daughter, Vita. She claimed that her husband, Franz, had been mooching off Chernov for years due to his past as a KGB officer. According to Reed, Franz rebuilt Kestrel using Chernov’s wealth to eventually hand leadership to Vita, though Reed remains unaware of Vita’s current identity.
Political fallout at Downing Street
The fallout from the Chernov poisoning has reached the highest levels of government. At Downing Street, Prime Minister Wallace is facing intense scrutiny following a security evaluation that revealed two catering employees were killed during the incident. Sam and Eleanor allegedly used the identities of these employees to infiltrate the event.
While the Prime Minister’s team has attempted to cover the details, MI5 agent Perryman has approached Wallace with intelligence regarding Helen’s past. Perryman revealed that a deceased individual named Bonnie Weir had claimed to be Helen’s stepsister, using the identity Lily Morris.

Although Lily Morris appeared to exist only in a single social service report, Perryman has recently obtained multiple documents and photographs linking Helen to that identity. This discovery suggests that Wallace may have been unaware of his wife’s true history.
The uncertain fate of Reed
The episode concluded with a sudden shift in character motivation. After the team successfully escaped the mansion and the pursuing mercenaries, the group visited a pub for respite.
In a private conversation, Sam admitted to Reed that his assistance in her rescue was merely a means to fulfill an assignment from Patrick, also known as Kestrel. Reed appeared to accept the inevitability of her death and agreed to walk outside with him.
The current status of Reed and Sam remains unknown. Given the suspicions held by Helen and Laila, the situation may be a calculated move by Sam to draw out Kestrel for a final confrontation.
