Boise State QB Maddux Madsen Questionable for Week 10 vs. Colorado State

Maddux Madsen listed as questionable ahead of Boise State at Colorado State

Boise State quarterback Maddux Madsen is officially questionable for the Broncos’ Week 10 matchup against Colorado State, according to a player availability report released Wednesday evening. The designation comes after Madsen sustained an apparent left knee injury during the fourth quarter of Boise State’s 46-45 victory over Texas State. While the injury initially caused concern during a high-scoring shootout, Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson provided a measure of relief on Monday, noting that an MRI indicated the issue is not long-term.

Madsen has been a cornerstone of the Broncos’ offense, having completed 148 of 222 passes for 1,681 yards and 15 touchdowns with only one interception this season. His career statistics reflect a high-volume producer, with over 8,000 passing yards and 65 touchdowns recorded during his time in college football.

As noted by The Coloradoan, the injury report also includes significant absences for both programs. For Boise State, running back Sire Gaines and starting left guard Carson Rasmussen are both listed as out. Gaines, who has 418 rushing yards and five touchdowns this season, missed the previous contest against Texas State due to an undisclosed lower-body injury. Rasmussen has been sidelined since September 26, when he suffered an undisclosed injury against Western Michigan, as reported by SI.com.

Max Cutforth prepared to lead the Broncos offense

If Madsen is unable to take the field, the responsibility falls to fourth-year junior Max Cutforth. The Nampa, Idaho, native has demonstrated an ability to stabilize the offense under pressure. During the Texas State game, Cutforth completed 8 of 13 passes for 131 yards and three touchdowns, including a game-winning connection to Akeem Wright. Coach Danielson confirmed on Monday that Cutforth would receive the start if Madsen is unavailable.

Danielson addresses Boise State’s collapse, Cutforth’s heroics and Madsen’s injury

“Max came in and did a phenomenal job. (Quarterbacks coach Zak) Hill has done a great job with him, but that’s hats off to Max Cutforth. He came in a dire moment for the team and did a phenomenal job to finish that game… but he’s been through it now. One of the greatest teachers in life is getting reps at it.”

Cutforth has often faced high-pressure situations. Last season, he made three starts for Madsen, guiding the team to a 2-1 record and a comeback win over Utah State that eventually helped secure a Mountain West championship. His career passing numbers include 1,203 yards and seven touchdowns on 105 completions.

Colorado State faces significant roster questions

The Rams are also managing many injuries as they prepare to host the Broncos. While several players are listed as probable, the availability of key contributors remains uncertain. According to reports from sports.yahoo.com and The Coloradoan, the most critical names to monitor for Colorado State are leading rusher Mel Brown and offensive lineman John Holthaus, both of whom are currently listed as questionable. Tight end Juice Vereen is doubtful, and several defensive backs—including Aj Noland, Dagan Myers, Elijah McCantos, and Jace Bellah—are out.
