Boise State Cracks Top 25 in Initial College Football Playoff Rankings
The first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings landed on Tuesday, and Boise State slipped right into the bottom of the top 25, checking in at No. 25 overall. As si.com reported, the Broncos hold a 7-1 overall record and a 4-0 mark in conference play, standing as the lone Group of Six team included by the selection committee in this opening release.
If the season ended today, that position would carry massive weight. The committee slotted Boise State as the No. 12 seed, which would trigger an opening-round postseason matchup against No. 5 Alabama. Meanwhile, the Broncos hold slightly stronger ground in traditional polls, sitting at No. 21 in the Coaches Poll and No. 20 in the AP Poll.
Chasing the Conference Title Without Distractions
Head coach Spencer Danielson made it clear during his Monday press conference that his locker room isn’t burning daylight on November projections. Instead, the focus remains entirely on the weekly grind as the team chases a fourth straight conference title.
“November is the compete month, and we talked about that as a team earlier because rankings only matter at the end,” Danielson said. “Whatever publicity Boise State can get for our program and university I think is great, but it matters nothing, it’s the reality. We’ve got to go 1-0 every single week.”
Danielson pointed out that the physical and mental toll of the season compounds sharply as the calendar turns. Meetings get heavier, practices grow more demanding, and the weather drops. According to broncosports.com, this appearance marks the 27th week the program has been represented in the CFP rankings since it began in 2014, echoing their previous postseason run in 2024.
Boise State Brings Seven-Game Win Streak into Matchup
The selection committee’s nod comes on the heels of a formidable offensive stretch. Boise State enters its upcoming matchup as one of just five teams nationwide riding a seven-game win streak, having scored 30 or more points in every single victory—a feat the program hasn’t accomplished since 2014.
Leading that charge is Dylan Riley, who leads the nation in rushing with 1,049 yards. Riley stands as one of three FBS running backs that has recorded over 1,000 yards on the season, propelling the nation’s 11th best rushing attack at 222.8 yards per contest.
The Broncos will look to extend that momentum when they travel to face Colorado State in Fort Collins on November 7.
