Driver Arrested After Crashing into Portland’s North Precinct Garage
A late-night pursuit ended abruptly on Thursday, October 29, 2026, when a silver 2005 Jeep Liberty crashed through the garage door of the Portland Police Bureau’s North Precinct. Officers arrested the driver, identified as 56-year-old Catherine M. Fleury of Portland, following the unusual sequence of events that began just before 9:00 p.m.
The incident unfolded at 8:48 p.m. when Portland Police officers assigned to the precinct responded to an emergency call from an adult female driver. The caller reported that an unknown motorist was actively following her vehicle. Seeking safety, she drove directly to the North Precinct located at 449 Northeast Emerson Street and pulled into the parking lot.
The Pursuit Enters the Precinct Lot
A Portland Police Bureau sergeant spotted the incoming vehicles and observed the suspect vehicle, a silver 2005 Jeep Liberty, veer up onto a sidewalk within the precinct grounds. The sergeant immediately activated his overhead police lights to initiate a traffic stop. Instead of stopping, the driver turned into a driveway and drove straight into a precinct garage door.

The vehicle broke through the exterior door before coming to a complete stop upon striking a PPB specialty tactical vehicle parked inside the garage. Paramedics evaluated Fleury at the scene and determined she was unhurt. An officer from the Portland Police Traffic Division responded to lead the crash investigation.
Charges and Ongoing Investigation
Following the crash, officers transported Fleury to the Multnomah County Detention Center. Booking staff declined to admit her due to a preexisting medical condition, and she was subsequently taken to a hospital. Authorities criminally cited Fleury for Criminal Mischief in the First Degree under ORS 164.365 and Reckless Driving under ORS 811.140.
Investigators are actively looking into whether impairment played a factor in the incident. Police noted that additional criminal charges remain possible as the traffic division continues its investigation. The suspect vehicle was towed from the scene.
