Colorado Gives Day Early Donations Open for Statewide Nonprofits

Colorado Gives Day is expanding its annual philanthropic push into a five-week fundraising window, opening early-giving options on Sunday at coloradogives.org ahead of the formal 24-hour drive scheduled for Dec. 8, according to the gazette.com.

The statewide initiative supports nearly 5,000 participating organizations, ranging from major institutions to small local charities. Last year’s campaign set three records by raising $56.66 million from 102,835 donors across 4,618 nonprofits, with $100 emerging as the most common donation amount.

“We know remembering one specific day between November and December feels really impossible,” said Kelly Dunkin, president and CEO of the Colorado Gives Foundation, headquartered in Denver. “We have big-name nonprofits to very small nonprofits—there’s something that will appeal to everyone—and any donation between Nov. 1 and Dec. 8 counts toward Colorado Gives Day.”

To incentivize participation, the Colorado Gives Foundation established a $1 million incentive fund seeded by major sponsor PNC and other contributors to boost individual donations. Additionally, a $250,000 matching fund targets recurring monthly contributions, matching up to $100 on the first occurrence for donors who set up ongoing support.

Corporate giving incentives are also returning through the Good for Business Challenge, sponsored by Gary Community Ventures. Businesses raising at least $1,000 between Nov. 1 and Dec. 8 will enter a drawing for a $1,000 cash prize to be distributed among the nonprofits they supported. On Dec. 8, PNC will provide prize money for small, medium, and large nonprofits based on budget rankings during designated power hours at 7 a.m., 10 a.m., 3 p.m., 7 p.m., and 10 p.m. Individual donors giving $100 or more to a single nonprofit on Dec. 8 will also be entered into an hourly drawing for round-trip domestic airfare provided by Southwest Airlines.

WalletHub ranks Colorado as the sixth most charitable state in the nation.

“We’re hearing nonprofits need the community donor support more than ever to keep serving the community,” Dunkin said. “Colorado Gives Day is really that feel-good day of the season. When things can feel so divisive and difficult, Colorado Gives Day can bring people together.”

Meanwhile, the Gazette Charities Foundation’s Empty Stocking Fund will hold its 43rd annual opening reception from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 18 at The Penrose House Conference Center, 1661 Mesa Ave., in Colorado Springs. Underwriting covers administrative costs so that 100% of contributions benefit 20 health and human service organizations in the Pikes Peak region. The fund has raised nearly $30 million since its founding in 1984.
