Concord Men’s Soccer Falls 2-1 to Point Park in Mountain East Conference Quarterfinals
The Concord University men’s soccer team saw its postseason run hit a sudden wall Sunday night at Callaghan Stadium, dropping a 2-1 decision to Point Park in the Mountain East Conference Quarterfinals, according to cumountainlions.com.
For a side that carried a stellar 12-4-2 record into the match, the reality of knockout soccer arrived swiftly. Point Park, entering the postseason at 7-8-3, seized control early and forced the Mountain Lions to chase the game for nearly 70 minutes. The Pioneers drew first blood in the 21st minute after Concord failed to clear a loose ball along the goal line. While the Maroon and Gray managed five shots in the opening frame, none tested the opposing goalkeeper, leaving the hosts searching for answers at halftime.
A Late Surge Falls Short
The second half brought sharper urgency, but Point Park doubled its lead with a sublime finish in the 65th minute. Down two goals, Concord mounted a determined response. Freshman midfielder Josiah Ochoa broke through in the 85th minute, burying a goal off an assist from senior midfielder Ezekiel Oswald to pull the Mountain Lions within striking distance. Ochoa nearly found the equalizer moments later, but the deficit ultimately proved too steep to erase.
The final box score paints a picture of intense pressure without a clinical finish. Concord outshot Point Park 14-8 and earned all seven corner kicks in the contest. Yet, the Pioneers made the most of their limited opportunities, converting both of their shots on target. Ochoa led the attack with five shots, while freshman defender Khotatso Balepile and junior forward Lucas Costa added two apiece.

Waiting on the Postseason Selection Show
The elimination shifts Concord’s focus from conference hardware to national tournament survival. Entering the tournament ranked fourth in Super Region I within the National Performance Index (NPI) ratings that govern national postseason selections, the Mountain Lions now face a nervous week of waiting.
Concord will learn its NCAA Tournament fate during the official selection show scheduled for Monday, November 9, at 6:30 p.m.
