Connecticut Leaders Tout Tech Talent Accelerator, AI Training – GovTech

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont and state leaders highlighted the state’s efforts to equip its workforce with artificial intelligence skills at a press conference. The event focused on the Tech Talent Accelerator 3.0, a four-year-old program launched in February to foster partnerships between higher education institutions and businesses, with a renewed emphasis on AI training.

The Office of Workforce Strategy is supporting AI pilot programs at Connecticut College, the University of New Haven, and Quinnipiac University, including an AI accounting and entrepreneurship course, an AI for cybersecurity program, and an online course on AI in healthcare business innovation.

Tech Talent Accelerator 3.0 Launches with AI Focus

The Tech Talent Accelerator 3.0, part of a broader state initiative, aims to connect students with companies before graduation. The program’s expansion includes AI-focused credentials, such as those offered by Amazon Web Services and Google, which provide industry-recognized skills for tech roles. State officials also announced a partnership with RAISE US, a nonpartisan organization, to train workers displaced by AI, with lessons from Connecticut informing a national workforce strategy. “States are where the rubber really hits the road,” said Dan O’Keefe, commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development.

AWS and Google offer resources for professional and curriculum development, including tools to help faculty integrate industry-recognized credentials into their teaching.

Collaborative Efforts with Education and Industry

Connecticut’s efforts include community meetings to share best practices for collaboration between higher education and industry. A June 2023 webinar detailed the application process for the Tech Talent Accelerator 2.0 grant, which ran from September 2023 to October 2024. The state recently received a $121 million investment to expand its quantum computing sector, further supporting tech-oriented workforce development.
