The 2026-27 fantasy basketball campaign has arrived as the points and categories start to count for managers diving into 9-category leagues. Yahoo Fantasy Basketball analyst Dan Titus released an updated top-250 player list designed to serve as a living, breathing, updating hub throughout the draft season.

At the very top of the consensus draft board sits Nikola Jokić of the Denver Nuggets at No. 1, followed closely by Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs in the second spot. Luka Dončić of the Los Angeles Lakers rounds out the top three at point guard and shooting guard, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons complete the opening tier of elite category contributors.

Julius Randle Set for Brooklyn Usage Surge

After the New York Knicks traded Randle to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Karl-Anthony Towns deal, the veteran forward has since been dumped by Minnesota onto the Brooklyn Nets in an offseason roster shuffle.

Eric Karabell noted that Julius Randle moves from Minnesota to Brooklyn, where he likely takes on a larger offensive role. The 31-year-old forward lands on a roster lacking offensive depth, meaning Randle and Michael Porter Jr. will get all the usage they desire. During his three-year peak with the Knicks following his 2020-21 Most Improved Player campaign, Randle averaged strong foundational statistics. Early draft data indicates fantasy managers can secure those foundational statistics well outside the top 50 picks.

Houston Locks Up Amen Thompson With Extension

In Houston, the Rockets backed their young guard with a major financial commitment at the beginning of September. The franchise signed Amen Thompson to a $208 million contract extension, signaling clear organizational belief as he enters his fourth career season.

Ahead of this year, Thompson is coming off a productive stretch where he secured personal bests of 18.3 points per contest, 7.8 boards, and 5.3 assists, alongside a 53.4% field goal accuracy and an improved free throw rate of 77.9%. Analysts project getting a few more points per game out of Thompson as he refines his game, perhaps alongside a few more assists as Thompson refines his skills as a playmaker. Even with Fred VanVleet coming back, Thompson is viewed as the future and a foundational cornerstone ready to deliver across multiple categories.

San Antonio Rookies and Sophomores Generating Preseason Buzz

San Antonio features a young depth chart with several high-upside names climbing draft boards. Dylan Harper of the San Antonio Spurs is highlighted under preseason notes, noting that the Spurs are a very deep team where youth and upside dominate their depth chart, and Harper is no different.

Given that the 20-year-old only played roughly 23 minutes per contest a season ago, it is apparent that the Spurs need to expand his workload. As the 2026-27 NBA campaign gets underway, Harper is still projected to begin games on the bench, though his time on the floor is anticipated to grow. In the 11-game stretch leading up to the final game of the regular season, a sneak peak showed what Harper is capable of when the rookie averaged 15.5 points and 4.3 assists.

Elsewhere across the league, young contributors are shaping strategy in category formats, including selections such as Cooper Flagg at PF, SF, SG for DAL at No. 12, Jalen Johnson at PF, SF for ATL at No. 13, and Kevin Durant at PF, SF, SG for HOU at No. 14.
