ESPN Selects Boise State vs. Oregon State for College GameDay

ESPN is taking its flagship college football pregame show, College GameDay, to Boise, Idaho, for a matchup between Oregon State and Boise State next Saturday, Yahoo Sports reported.

The decision marks a rare shift in the network’s broadcast geography. It will be the first time the show has traveled to a Group of Six campus since 2023, when it visited Harrisonburg, Virginia, for a game involving Appalachian State and James Madison.

The Broncos currently hold a pole position to secure the automatic Group of Six spot in this year’s College Football Playoff. Following a blowout win over Colorado State this past Saturday, Boise State improved its record to 8-1.

The team’s only loss of the season occurred during their season opener against Oregon. They face a difficult game next week against Oregon State, a team currently holding a 5-4 record.

Despite the middling record of the Beavers, the game remains the toughest remaining obstacle on the Boise State schedule.

The selection of Boise appears to be a direct result of a volatile Saturday in college football that left the network with few traditional powerhouse options. According to reports from Awful Announcing, several high-profile matchups became less attractive following recent results.

In the SEC, Kentucky’s lopsided loss to Tennessee and Florida’s defeat to Oklahoma diminished the appeal of next week’s Florida-Kentucky game. Similarly, LSU’s loss to Alabama reduced the desire for a return trip to Baton Rouge, where the show opened its season, for the Texas-LSU matchup.

The network also had to weigh other possibilities that fell away as the weekend progressed:

  • Missouri vs. Georgia: A loss by the Tigers to Texas likely removed Missouri from the playoff conversation.
  • Utah vs. Arizona: While Utah won against BYU, potential considerations regarding Pat McAfee may have influenced the decision.
  • USC vs. Indiana: This option was less likely as GameDay was in Bloomington just last weekend.
  • Wake Forest vs. SMU: The Demon Deacons are 8-1, while SMU sits at 7-2 and remains in the ACC title race.

Because Saturday’s results left the destination landscape wide open, ESPN opted to provide visibility to teams outside the Power-2 conferences.
