Family to Honor Isaiah Goodson at Memorial Following Jacksonville Shooting

Family and friends of Isaiah Henry Goodson are preparing for a Sunday vigil to honor the 20-year-old, whose life was cut short during a violent shooting outside a Jacksonville house party last weekend.

The gathering, scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m., is a moment of collective mourning following an event that left a community reeling.

The tragedy unfolded around 3:50 a.m. Sunday near Wilcox and 5th streets, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Responding officers discovered Goodson wounded at the scene, and he later died at a hospital. News4JAX reported that the incident was part of a broader wave of violence over the Halloween weekend, which saw 17 people shot and three killed across six separate violent encounters in the area.

Investigators believe the house party on 5th Street had drawn a crowd of between 100 and 200 people. As the night progressed, the gathering spilled into the streets, setting the stage for a chaotic and lethal turn of events. Police reported that gunfire erupted in two quick successions, with the majority of the victims struck during the second volley.

In total, nine other people were injured during the shooting. The victims ranged in age from 20 to 25, including a 15-year-old girl. Authorities confirmed that while most of the survivors are currently in stable condition, one woman remains in life-threatening condition. The scale of the violence, involving so many young people, has left neighbors and families grappling with the sudden loss of safety in their community.

Those who knew Isaiah Goodson describe a young man whose character stood in stark contrast to the violence that claimed his life. His aunt shared that he was a hardworking, family-oriented individual who consistently avoided trouble. “He was a very loving person, didn’t get in any trouble. He was hard-working and very family oriented,” she told News4JAX.

The memorial announcement released by his family echoes these sentiments, painting a picture of a young man with a “beautiful life, loving spirit and kind heart.” In their call for the community to gather this Sunday, the family emphasized a desire for unity.

“We are asking everyone — family, friends, loved ones, and the community to come together as one to honor and celebrate the life of our beloved Isaiah Goodson,” the family stated.

The impact of this shooting extends beyond the immediate families of the victims, touching the broader Jacksonville community as it confronts a particularly violent holiday weekend. To assist with the unexpected costs associated with the tragedy, Goodson’s family has established a GoFundMe campaign for those wishing to provide financial support.

As the community prepares for the memorial balloon release and vigil, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation into the circumstances of the party and the shooters involved. The event serves as a somber reminder of the fragility of life for young adults in the city, leaving many to wonder how such a large, public gathering could spiral into such devastating loss.
