Hartford Men’s Basketball Aims for Growth in 2026-2027 Season

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford men’s basketball team kicks off their 2026-2027 season aiming to build upon the progress made last year, which saw them conclude with a 13-12 overall record and a 7-9 mark in Conference of New England (CNE) competition. With a roster laden with returners, the Hawks intend to make a further leap this season, adopting a mentality centered on development. We took a good step as a program last year but still fell short of our goals, said Head Coach Aaron Toomey. Our success as a team this year will come down to our mindset and how we approach each and every day. We still have a ton of room for growth in our program, and I am excited to see this group push for more.

Key Players Return for Third Season

Toomey returns for his third season at the helm, assisted by Mathew Kittner, bringing back 11 returners, six of them seniors. Key returners include senior Kyle Winters, who averaged 15.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in his 2025-2026 campaign after transferring from Siena College. Senior Kaosi Chijioke averaged 11.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists last season. Our team’s mindset is to really have a next play mentality, said Chijioke. We can’t worry about anything negative for more than a split second because the game isn’t over until that final buzzer. The Hawks are bringing in two transfers, junior Bryce Hawkins and sophomore Harry Geng, along with freshman guard Sawyer Eberhardt, whose brother, junior River Eberhardt, averaged 8.8 points and 6.3 rebounds last season.
