Hochul And Blakeman Make Final Push As New York Sees Surge In Early Voting Ahead Of …

New York Governor Kathy Hochul and Republican challenger Bruce Blakeman made their final appeals to voters across the state as early voting surges ahead of Tuesday’s gubernatorial election, with recent polls showing the incumbent Democrat maintaining a double-digit lead. As the race enters its final weekend, early voting figures have drawn nearly 295,000 New York City residents to the polls during the first four days, representing a roughly 72% increase over the comparable period during the 2022 gubernatorial election, according to reporting from The Yeshiva World.

Both candidates spent Friday crisscrossing the state to rally their bases. Governor Hochul began her morning greeting commuters outside Brooklyn’s Atlantic Terminal before heading to a union hall to address hundreds of sanitation workers. Framing the election as a direct referendum on national politics, she tied Blakeman closely to Donald Trump.

People are turning out to vote because they want to make sure that we don’t get a crazy Trump guy in the governor’s mansion in Albany. So that’s why people are turning out right now.

Hochul told supporters at the union hall. Recent polling reflects her current advantage. A Siena University survey places the governor ahead at 54% to 40%, while a Marist University poll shows her leading 53% to 42%. Blakeman, however, has dismissed those numbers as an effort by pollsters to depress Republican turnout.

Blakeman Targets Affordability and Crime in Nassau County

Blakeman focused his Friday schedule on his home turf in Nassau County, where he swore in 80 new police recruits. Emphasizing his administration’s local track record, the Republican challenger pointed to municipal budgets and law enforcement as proof of effective governance.

“Safest county in America. Budget surpluses of every budget. State comptroller saying our finances are excellent. I haven’t raised taxes a penny in five years,” Blakeman told crowds. During the campaign stop, he also signed a pledge promising not to raise state taxes if elected.

Blakeman leveled sharp criticism at the governor over the state’s economic climate, declaring that New York has become one of the least affordable states in the country under Hochul’s leadership. “This state is one of the least affordable states in the United States of America. Under Kathy Hochul, we’re the highest tax state in America, the highest. It’s a badge of shame,” he said.

The Final Stretch Before Election Day

Early voting continues through Sunday, November 1, giving voters a final window to cast ballots ahead of Election Day on Tuesday, November 3. Polling locations across the state will remain open from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

With early turnout breaking prior records across New York City and both campaigns sharpening their core messages on taxes, public safety, and leadership, the question remains whether the late surge will alter the margins currently captured in final polling.
