Indiana Candidate Jaime West Loses Election After Viral Interview

Jaime West Loses Indiana Council Race After Viral ‘We Have Guns Too’ Interview

Jaime West, the Indiana Democrat whose October candidate forum declaration that “We have guns too” became a viral sensation across national media, lost her election bid for the Fayette County Council District 4 seat on Tuesday, falling to Republican Gary Keener Jr. by a margin of more than four to one. According to election data posted by 812 Now and reported by local12.com, West received just 297 votes while Keener captured 1,203 to secure the seat.

The lopsided result capped a campaign that transformed from a local county council race into a national spectacle after video clips from an October 9 interview spread rapidly across social media. Outlets including The New York Post, TMZ and USA Today picked up the story, amplifying West’s remarks to an audience far beyond Fayette County.

West Recounts Violent Threats from MAGA Supporters

During the October 9 forum, West told attendees she had been threatened “so many times” by people she described as “MAGA,” while distinguishing them from Republicans she characterized as “good.” She claimed that “a sheriff’s nephew threatened to blow my head off. But, you know, what are you gonna do?” The specific allegation drew immediate scrutiny given its severity.

Speaking to WXIN, Fayette County Sheriff Zac Jones flatly denied the claim, stating that he has no nephews and that West is an unknown person to him. The sheriff’s direct contradiction added a disputed element to the viral narrative.

Three Beers Before the Forum

West also appeared to slur her words during portions of the viral interview. She later addressed the matter on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” explaining that she had consumed alcohol before entering the forum. “I was nervous! I was going into a room full of Republicans,” she said. When Morgan asked how many drinks she had consumed, she replied: “All right, three. Three beers. What do you want me to say, man? I had three beers.” West maintained that she was not “that intoxicated” but knew what she was talking about when it came to Indiana politics.

National Attention, Local Defeat

Despite the viral fame that brought national outlets to cover her campaign, the attention failed to translate into electoral support in Fayette County. The final vote count showed Keener winning decisively with 1,203 votes compared to West’s 297.

“All right, three. Three beers. What do you want me to say, man? “I had three beers,” West told Morgan when asked how many drinks she had consumed.”
