Colorado Senate Democrats re-elected Sen. James Coleman of Denver to continue as state Senate president, a role he first held after the 2024 election. Coleman ran uncontested for the position.
“It has been the honor of my life to serve this chamber and to be able to make it so that we can get good things done for the state of Colorado,” Coleman said. “The most important thing is that if you are in a leadership position, no one should outwork you serving others, and the higher up you go in leadership, the greater the servant.”
Senate Leadership Elected
Sen. Cathy Kipp of Fort Collins nominated Coleman for the presidency. The caucus also filled other key leadership roles, electing Sen. Kyle Mullica of Thornton as the next president pro tempore and Sen. Dylan Roberts of Frisco as majority leader.

Newly Appointed Roles
Several other Democrats were elected to leadership positions: Sen. Katie Wallace of Longmont as assistant majority leader, Sen. Iman Jodeh of Aurora as majority whip, and Sen. Janice Marchman of Loveland as majority caucus chair.
Joint Budget Committee Members
Senate Democrats selected Sen. Judy Amabile of Boulder and Sen.-elect Emily Sirota of Denver to serve on the Joint Budget Committee, a body described as one of the most powerful legislative in the state as it writes the state budget. Both Amabile and Sirota served on the committee during the last session, with Sirota previously a member of the House.
Democrats claimed supermajorities in both the House and Senate following Tuesday’s election.
