Man Uses Yield Sign to Shatter Glass at East Wichita Church

A man was recorded on security video using a yield sign to shatter glass panes at a church in east Wichita.

The incident, which took place in the early hours of the morning, damaged property belonging to the congregation.

According to KAKE, the suspect approached the building with a metal yield sign before repeatedly striking the glass doors and windows. The footage shows the individual in the act of destroying the exterior, an event that has prompted an immediate response from local law enforcement as they work to identify the perpetrator.

The destruction at the church property extends beyond a single broken pane. The video evidence indicates a deliberate attempt to cause harm to the structure, with the suspect using the heavy metal sign as a makeshift tool to bypass security glass.

For the local community, this kind of vandalism represents more than just a repair bill.

It disrupts the sense of security for a space that typically serves as a hub for neighborhood gatherings and support services. While authorities have not yet released a motive, the intensity of the damage suggests a targeted effort rather than a random act of mischief.

The Wichita Police Department is currently reviewing the footage to piece together the suspect’s movements before and after the event. Because the suspect used a municipal object—the yield sign—to carry out the destruction, investigators are also looking into where the sign was taken from, which could provide a timeline of the suspect’s path through the city.

There is currently no information regarding potential suspects or whether this incident is linked to other recent vandalism reports in the area. The investigation remains open as police call for anyone with information or additional surveillance footage from nearby businesses to come forward.
