Marty Carruth Justice, 51, Vernal Native and Family Man, Remembered
Marty Carruth Justice, a lifelong resident of Vernal, Utah, passed away on July 8, 2022, at the age of 51.
Justice’s story is a familiar one in the American West: a life built on honest, hard work and the simple pleasures of the land. Born on August 18, 1970, in Salt Lake City, he was the youngest of his family, a fact that his siblings, Aundrea Warby, Jimmy Justice, and Roxanne Pummell, surely delighted in. He spent his formative years in Vernal, moving there with his family from Sandy in 1973, and though he lived briefly in Orem and Oregon, it was Vernal that he always called home.
For Justice, work was more than just a way to make a living; it was a point of pride. A high school graduate, he spent his career as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic, including time with J&L Oilfield. This trade, demanding both physical strength and technical skill, defined him. It was the kind of work that builds communities, literally shaping the land he loved, and it was a profession he approached with a steadfast sense of integrity.

A Life Measured in Love and Land
But for all his professional dedication, it was his family that was the true center of Marty Justice’s universe. He is survived by his children: Tiffany Aubrey Justice-Beasley; Aunesty Shyanne Justice Tracy and her husband, Paiten; and Jayden Marty Justice and his fiancée, Hannah. His legacy continues through his grandchildren—Aubrey, Zachary, Naomi, Wrenlee, and Desirae—who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his mother, Tamria Ilene Clark.
Justice’s passions were simple and deeply personal. He found solace and excitement in arrowhead hunting, a hobby that connected him to the ancient history of the region. He loved hiking, exploring the same vast, open spaces that his heavy equipment helped to develop. This love for the outdoors was not a pastime; it was an extension of his identity. It was where he found peace and where he forged memories with his loved ones.
His life, like so many, was marked by both joy and profound loss. Justice was preceded in death by his father, Allen; his brother, “Jerry Allen” Justice; his son, Dakota Marty Fay; and by Shancey Rae Warby and Jeremiah Justice. These losses undoubtedly cast long shadows, yet he is remembered as a man who cherished the time he had with his family, focusing on the love that remained.
Marty was the baby of the family.
The community’s respect for Justice is evident in the upcoming public tribute. A Celebration of Life will be held this Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 5-8 PM at the Vernal Elks Lodge. This event, scheduled more than four years after his passing, speaks to the enduring impact he had on those around him. It shows a life lived fully and remembered fondly, a gathering not of mourners, but of celebrants honoring a man who was, at his core, a devoted family man and a proud son of Vernal.
