The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Nelson County man in connection with internet crimes against children, and investigators say they strongly believe additional victims may exist. Terry Cole Whiteman was taken into custody after traveling to Covington on November 3, 2026, where authorities say he intended to meet with a minor.
Whiteman was arrested by the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Covington Police Department and charged with three counts of using communication systems to facilitate certain offenses against minors. He is being held without bond at the Alleghany Regional Jail, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators believe more victims may exist
During the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office says, investigators uncovered additional information and strongly believe there are other victims associated with Whiteman.
The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office reports it is working with the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation continues, and both agencies are trying to identify anyone who may have been victimized.
Investigators strongly believe there may be individuals who have not yet come forward. Anyone who has had previous contact with Whiteman or has information that could assist with the investigation is encouraged to speak with law enforcement, the Sheriff’s Office says. Even information that may seem minor could be helpful.
