New Britain police are investigating the deaths of a woman and her husband after both were found dead with gunshot wounds in separate locations on Tuesday morning. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has ruled the woman’s death a homicide.
Police responded to a home on Roxbury Road at approximately 8:20 a.m. Tuesday following a report of a possible suicide. Inside the home, officers found a woman dead in a bedroom with gunshot wounds. She was identified as 41-year-old Amanda Dark of New Britain. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later determined her cause of death was gunshot wounds to the head and her manner of death was a homicide.
Investigation Links Husband to Death
According to police, their investigation revealed that the woman’s husband, 44-year-old John Dark, was involved in the incident. Police later located John Dark dead in his vehicle at the Silver Lake boat launch in Berlin. He died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, and no other injuries were reported.
Family and Court Records Reveal Restraining Order Denial
Amanda Dark’s family members confirmed she was a mother and grandmother. Family court records indicate that Amanda Dark filed for divorce from John Dark in September and had asked for a restraining order, claiming she was concerned for her safety due to his behavior. A judge denied the restraining order because she did not appear for the hearing. Court records also show that John Dark had a pending arrest case on charges of third-degree assault, disorderly conduct, and risk of injury to a child.

Ongoing Investigation Seeks Public Information

and encouraged anyone in distress to seek help. The public is asked to call Lieutenant Jared Barsaleau of the New Britain Police Department at (860) 826-3131 with any information.
