Fatal I-95 Crash in Providence

A 39-year-old man from Concord, New Hampshire, died Friday morning following a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 95 in Providence, Rhode Island. The crash, which occurred near the Charles Street exit around 9:54 a.m., involved the man’s Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and a tractor-trailer, according to Rhode Island State Police.

Reporting for WJAR, NBC 10 News confirmed that the incident began when the Chevrolet Silverado, traveling in the left lane, rear-ended a vehicle directly in front of it. The force of this initial collision pushed the pickup truck into the middle lane of the highway. Once in the middle lane, the truck was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer.

State police Lt. Col. Erik Yanyar provided additional details to the Providence Journal, noting that the crash scene was located near the Barbara Leonard Way overpass. Emergency responders transported the 39-year-old driver to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have stated that they are withholding the man’s identity until his next of kin can be notified.

While the incident caused significant disruption to morning commuters—closing multiple lanes for over an hour—officials confirmed that no other individuals involved in the crash sustained injuries. The Rhode Island Department of Transportation reported that the scene was cleared and all lanes were reopened to traffic by approximately 11:30 a.m.

As of Friday evening, the Rhode Island State Police investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not issued any citations or charges in connection with the crash.
