The North Dakota Department of Transportation is offering $10 ride vouchers for Uber and Lyft from Oct. 29–31 to reduce impaired driving on state roads. The initiative, known as ND Sober Ride, is a program under the statewide Vision Zero initiative, which seeks to eliminate serious injuries and traffic deaths in North Dakota.
“Halloween is a time for fun, but impaired driving puts everyone at risk,” said Kelly Aberle, the impaired driving program manager for the North Dakota Department of Transportation. Aberle stated that the program provides an additional option for people to get home safely and urged the public to incorporate a sober ride into their plans.
Vision Zero Provides Ride Vouchers via Website
Users can access Lyft ride codes, Uber voucher links, and QR codes by visiting VisionZero.ND.gov. Vision Zero advises riders to scan the QR code and save the voucher in their chosen app before they use impairing substances or drink.
The vouchers are subject to the following conditions:
- A limited number of vouchers will be released each morning during the campaign until supplies are exhausted.
- Each code is unique to the campaign and can be used only once per user.
- If vouchers are unavailable, the department suggests checking back the following morning and arranging an alternative sober ride for the current trip.
Program Support and Partnerships
AAA – The Auto Club Group has provided sponsorship for the ND Sober Ride discount codes since the program’s inception. The North Dakota Department of Transportation is also seeking additional support from organizations and businesses.
