Election Day Arrives in the Pacific Northwest
As Tuesday brings Election Day, residents throughout the Pacific Northwest are closely monitoring developing contests in Oregon and Washington, KPTV noted. On Monday, John Horvick of DHM Research appeared on FOX 12 to analyze recent survey data, patterns in early balloting, and expectations for the initial returns.
National Polls Show Tight Senate Races
According to Horvick, critical Senate races nationally have tended to favor Democrats, although the majority of figures stay inside the statistical error margin. Midterm cycles traditionally bring challenges for the sitting presidential party, and Horvick pointed out that broader national patterns mean Republicans could outperform expectations if polls suffer from even slight inaccuracies.
The 3rd Congressional District matchup in Southwest Washington featuring Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez and Republican John Braun has attracted heavy national financial backing and interest. Horvick stated that broader political moods across the country might impact congressional battles more heavily than contests at the state level.
The Oregon Governor’s Race and Economic Pressures
Locally, the Oregon governor’s race between Democrat Tina Kotek and Republican Christine Drazan remains highly competitive. Horvick observed that public survey information for Oregon has been scarce during the closing stretch of the campaign, even though prior surveys indicated narrow margins.

Right now, it’s really about affordability and sort of a sense that government’s not functioning well.
Horvick pointed to voter frustration around housing costs, taxes, and government performance as central themes in the debate over state leadership.
Ballots Arrive Throughout the Week
Horvick also cautioned against drawing firm conclusions from early ballot returns. While initial drop counts in Oregon and Washington will be released at 8 p.m. Tuesday, ballots postmarked by Election Day will continue to arrive and be tallied throughout the week.
