PSC Announces 1000 Paid Internship Vacancies for Ministry of Education

The Public Service Commission announced 1,000 paid internship vacancies within the Ministry of Education’s State Department for Basic Education under the Digital Literacy Programme Cohort 5. Successful applicants will deploy to sub-county education offices for 12 months, with applications closing on October 5, 2026.

The Public Service Commission has launched a major recruitment drive aimed at young professionals seeking practical experience in technology-enhanced education.

Digital Literacy Programme Cohort 5 Placement Details

The newly declared openings operate under the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) Cohort 5, administered specifically through the State Department for Basic Education. Rather than working in central government offices, successful candidates will be appointed and deployed to schools at the sub-county level. According to a notice published by the PSC in the Tuesday, September 15, 2026, edition of MyGov newspaper, successful applicants will be appointed and deployed to schools at the sub-county level, where they will support digital learning, virtual learning, and other technology-related education platforms.

“The Ministry of Education, State Department for Basic Education has declared 1,000 internship vacancies under the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) Cohort 5. Successful candidates will be appointed and deployed to schools at Sub-county level, where, in addition to acquiring practical skills and knowledge, the interns will play a critical role in supporting virtual learning and other related digital platforms,” the PSC stated.

The placement carries a strict 12-month duration and is non-renewable. However, unlike traditional unpaid work experience arrangements, the position includes financial support. According to the 12-month non-renewable internship, participants will receive a government-determined stipend funded directly by the State Department for Basic Education. Upon finishing their term, participants receive a certificate upon completion recognizing their service.

Strict Academic Eligibility and Qualification Rules

The commission has established strict criteria to filter applicants. To be considered eligible, candidates must have graduated no earlier than 2022. Applicants must hold a recognized credential in information and communication technology or education technology integration, specifically possessing one of the following qualifications from a recognised institution:

A Bachelor’s degree in Education with a specialisation in Information Communication Technology
A Bachelor’s degree in ICT
A Diploma in ICT
A Diploma in ICT Integration in Education

Beyond holding the correct degree or diploma, applicants must demonstrate technical competence across several specialized domains. The PSC requires applicants to have knowledge of networking and infrastructure, application development, information security, and project management. Candidates must further demonstrate the ability to integrate ICT into education, particularly in e-learning and content development, as well as skills in research and innovation that can support the Digital Literacy Programme. Another key requirement is flexibility, as successful candidates must be willing to work on a full-time basis and be deployed to any Sub-County Education Office. Applicants who have previously benefited from a similar programme are not eligible.

Core Responsibilities and Application Deadlines

Once stationed at sub-county education offices, the 1,000 interns will execute a multifaceted job description. Their duties will support e-learning and content development in line with the schemes of work and provide classroom support and training to primary school teachers on the use of digital literacy devices. They will also assist in the implementation of the Digital Learning Programme and develop innovations aimed at improving the use of digital learning in schools.

Other responsibilities include promoting the safe, secure and ethical use of technology in learning, helping teachers integrate ICT into teaching, learning and assessment, and supporting school staff in developing key policies and procedures. Additionally, interns will contribute by providing first-line maintenance and support for ICT services in schools.
