Prime Video has renewed its flagship drama Reacher for a sixth season, cementing a rapid production pace just days after Season 4 concluded. Starring Alan Ritchson, the franchise continues to draw massive global audiences while Season 5 remains in production in Toronto.

Amazon is picking up the pace on its flagship action franchise, handing Reacher an early Season 6 pickup just 12 days after the fourth season finale. The rapid renewal arrives only four months after the early Season 5 order, marking the first time the series has received two renewals within the same calendar year. Developed by Nick Santora and based on the novels by Lee Child, the series stars Alan Ritchson as the formidable drifter Jack Reacher.

The expediency is designed to keep the hit drama on a reliable yearly cadence. Season 5 started production in Toronto in late July ahead of the fourth season’s August 12 premiere, while the newly announced sixth season solidifies the streamer’s long-term commitment to the character.

Global Viewership Numbers Behind the Rapid Renewals

The double-order strategy is backed by substantial viewing figures across the globe. According to metrics supplied by Amazon, Season 4 drew 66 million viewers worldwide during its first 28 days of release, encompassing seven of the season’s eight episodes. That performance outpaced the previous season’s trajectory and secured a spot among the five most-watched seasons for any original series in the platform’s history. Amazon also noted that its third season reached 54.6 million viewers globally on Prime Video in its first 19 days. Amazon states that seasons 2, 3, and 4 are also the three most watched seasons of a returning series in Prime Video’s history, with 200 million viewers cumulatively since the show’s launch.

International markets account for a significant share of that audience. Amazon reports that 58% of the Season 4 viewership came from outside the United States, with especially strong performance in the U.K., Germany, and Brazil.

Production Progress on Season 5 and Book Adaptations

While Season 6 is officially on the calendar, production on the fifth season is currently underway in Toronto. Season 5 will adapt Make Me, the 20th novel in Lee Child’s book series. Prime Video has not yet announced a premiere date for the fifth outing, though industry expectations point toward a late 2027 release window. Season 5 had already been largely written at the time of the May greenlight.

Source material for the newly confirmed sixth season has not yet been selected by the creative team. Sharing an update on social media, Reacher executive producer and star Ritchson let slip that Die Trying ranks as his top choice from the book series, adding that I had it approved until someone got re-elected.

Franchise Expansion and Platform Standing

Beginning with season three — which Prime Video greenlit a fortnight prior to the December 2023 debut of season two — the show has maintained a continuous streak of early pickup orders. Season 4 of “Reacher” ended on Wednesday, September 16.

Following this latest sixth-season order, Reacher stands to become the second-longest-running scripted original on Prime Video, trailing only Bosch while matching Invincible, which likewise holds a renewal through season six.
