RoseMarie Dembowski, who spent her final years brightening life at a Marion healthcare facility where she earned the affectionate title of “The Mayor,” passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at the age of 91.
Living Across Connecticut and Massachusetts
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Helen and Antonio D’Agostino, Rose built a rich life across several New England communities. She lived for many years in Simsbury and Fairfield, Connecticut, before eventually settling in Marion, Massachusetts, where she spent her final chapter at Sippican Healthcare Center. Over a lifetime marked by deep faith in God and a steady, positive attitude, she managed her health battles with congestive heart failure and COPD with remarkable resilience.
Her warmth left a distinct mark on the facilities that cared for her. Throughout her time in care, she was known simply as “The Mayor”—a nod to her habit of reaching out to newcomers, offering a friendly word to those who felt isolated, and encouraging hesitant residents to join in group activities and try new things. She held a deep appreciation for her Italian heritage, her close friendships gathered over decades, and her particularly cherished Cinco de Mayo birthday.

Remembering Surviving Family Members
Rose was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Joseph Dembowski, as well as her sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Roger Baron. She leaves behind a devoted family, including her daughter and son-in-law, Bernadette and John Slattery of East Falmouth, Massachusetts. She was also an adoring grandmother to Sean and Megan Slattery of Hanover, Massachusetts, and Kevin and Monica Slattery of Portland, Oregon. Her three great-grandchildren—Nolan, Owen, and Hailey Slattery of Hanover—brought immense joy and light to her daily life.
