Seattle U Women’s Soccer Draws With Denver to End Regular Season

Redhawks Close Regular Season With 1-1 Draw Against Denver on Senior Day

Seattle University women’s soccer closed out its regular season Saturday afternoon by earning a 1-1 draw against Denver on Senior Day at Championship Field. The result leaves the Redhawks with an 11-4-5 overall record and a 5-1-3 mark in conference play as the team prepares to pivot toward the postseason.

The hosts wasted little time asserting control. In the 11th minute, Sydney Grundland Lanuza broke the deadlock, finding the back of the net for her second goal of the season. U’i Kaaihue delivered the assist, handing Seattle U an early 1-0 advantage.

That momentum carried deep into the afternoon. Seattle U dictated much of the opening 45 minutes, outshooting Denver 14-1 before the intermission while holding a 44-56 percent possession split. Goalkeeper Kassidy Kirgan turned away one shot to preserve the advantage through the first half.

Denver Counters After Intermission

The visiting Pioneers regrouped during the break and found their breakthrough in the 63rd minute, evening the score at 1-1. Despite surrendering the equalizer, the Redhawks kept up offensive pressure for the remainder of regulation. Seattle U finished the match with 26 total shots—putting 10 on target—and earned 12 corner kicks compared to just three for Denver.

The Pioneers’ defense ultimately weathered the storm, and neither side managed to find a late winner. Kirgan finished her day with three saves, while the Redhawks’ defense restricted the Pioneers to eight total shots overall.

Next Up in the Postseason

With the regular season officially in the books, the Redhawks turn their focus to the West Coast Conference Tournament. Seattle U is scheduled to face Pepperdine in the first round next Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
