Sioux City Musketeers Overcome Omaha Lancers to End Winning Streak

Lancers Fall Short in Third-Period Collapse Against Musketeers

The Omaha Lancers saw their three-game winning streak evaporate Saturday night at the Tyson Events Center, suffering a 6-3 defeat to the Sioux City Musketeers. Despite entering the final frame with a 3-2 lead, the Lancers were unable to withstand a late-game offensive surge from the Musketeers, who managed to net four goals in the third period alone. Entering the contest with a 6-9-1-0 record, the Musketeers had failed to secure a victory in seven previous attempts when trailing after 40 minutes of play. The Lancers, now sitting at 6-7-1-0, entered the third period leading 3-2 before surrendering four goals in the final frame.

Early Offensive Rhythm for Omaha

The Lancers opened the game with high intensity, marking the fourth straight frame in which the team has produced at least two goals. Tommy Spencer ignited the offense at the 3:04 mark of the first period, skating through the Sioux City defense after receiving a drop pass from Mason Noble behind the Omaha net. Spencer’s coast-to-coast effort gave the Lancers an early lead, their fifth time scoring first this season.

Charlie Vig extended that advantage just over two minutes later. At the 5:34 mark, Vig redirected a shot from Todd Kilpela at the right point, putting Omaha up 2-0. While Sioux City clawed one back on a power-play goal from Evan Jones—who capitalized just four seconds into the man advantage at the 12:21 mark—the Lancers maintained their composure through the second period.

The Second Period Seesaw

Artem Prima kept the two-goal cushion alive early in the second frame. At the 3:38 mark, a pass from Yegor Kim meant for Prima in the crease inadvertently turned into a shot that forced a pad save from Sioux City goaltender Hugo Severgardh. Prima was in position to bury the rebound, pushing the score to 3-1.

The Musketeers responded at 6:39 when Daniil Butin, the team’s leading scorer with nine goals, converted a backhand shot during four-on-four play. That goal tightened the score to 3-2, setting the stage for the third-period shift that ultimately decided the outcome.

The Third Period Surge

Sioux City’s comeback began 6:13 into the final period when Jack Brauti notched his third goal of the season from the edge of the right circle to tie the game at 3-3. The momentum remained with the home team as Dominik Bednar took the lead for the Musketeers at 12:09, firing a wrist shot from the top of the far circle. Cole Sabourin added an insurance goal at 15:16, and Wyatt Sypniewski sealed the 6-3 victory with an empty-net goal at the 18:04 mark. The Lancers are scheduled to return to home ice on Nov. 13 to face the Sioux Falls Stampede. The game, designated as Military Appreciation Night, is set for a 7:05 p.m. start, with ticket information available at Omaha Lancers.
